Does perfomance sound normal?

Does perfomance sound normal?
I am the proud new owner of a 2001 T/A ws6 M6. This is my first Ls1. It is stock as far as i can tell. The power seems pretty good but not as good as what some other owners are claiming in these forums. Obviously it can smoke the tires with a clutch dump - but from a roll - no clutch just punch it it will not spin them - it can get a good bark on second gear- none in third yet - I know the previous owner ran only 87 octane - I have switched to premium and have disconnected the battery to reset the computer and have been running it pretty hard- I heard doing this will retrain the computer for more timing and performance. It does idle a little rough - oil pressure is at 40 at idle - gets up to around 60 when driving - I am thinking a plug and fuel filter change may be in order then get it to a dyno- - possibly some top end cleaner - It does have some 40 wide Kumho's- which i suppose are better grip tiresand maybe why it does not break loose as much - it has 51k on it. Any suggestions or thoughts or am i just being paranoid.
Thanks
Scott

just disconnecting the battery wont reset the timing (fuel) setting, i believe you need to execute a drive cycle

also change your plugs and air filter, that can make a big difference

If it's idling rough, that definately suggests it needs at least plugs, if not both plugs and wires.
Change the oil, plugs, wires, fuel filter, and air filter, and if you really want to know how well it performs, take it to the local track, and see what kind of times it puts down

Mine does this too. I have the Goodyear F1's and if I punch it in 1st they dont light up until i shift to 2nd. The guy that had the car before me only put 6k on the car and had it for 3 years...So im guessing it could be a fuel problem but idk what....Sorry, i'm not trying to hijack this thread, i just have the same problem.

fuel filter, plug and wires and keep running 91+ and you'll be fine, with good tires and rolling into it on a stock LS1 is going to be hard break em' noticably loose, but running it hard on premuim isnt going to do much with the computer, its already switched from the low octane tables so its good.

Even in stock form you should be able to turn your tires into pillers of smoke from a slow roll.
You are right to believe that there might be something off...
1.My first question would be the same as the slight joke before, did you disable the traction control?
2. get her to a dyno and verify your fears. if you are truely low on power , at least you will know and be able to start trouble shooting, insure the person running your car, hooks it up to a wideband , these reading are VERY important when trouble shooting low power.
3. as with any used car purchase, the very first oil change should also get the full tuneup treatment, plugs, flush, plugwires, coolant, trans and rear diff fluids. show her you love her and she will return it
once that has been done repost wheither of not you have found your trouble. we can go from there...

Yeah, you are asking a whole lot of it to blow away the tires from a 5 roll with the clutch out. It's having to pull from pretty deep and the meat of the tire spinning power is up around 3000 rpms, maybe a little higher because you have stock gears. First is kinda longish. Plus on stock suspension, weight transfers to the rear easier than a lowered car so it will hook better. I highly doubt your car is a dud.

****, my auto doesn't light the tires up from a stop very much, but then again my tires have real good traction. On a drop down they will light up. These cars aren't incredibly torquey down low, but they pull like a bitch.
it can light em up when they are cold though!

When I got my Z28. I was paranoid as well, since I drove a Buick Regal and a v6 5 speed mustang before my LS1. I also couldnt spin the tires from a roll. you just need to get used to the car and know how to. Just be aware that the weak link on these cars is the 10 bolt rearend. and the shifter is rather vague. I am still sad that I can do a heel toe burnout, because of the ABS? But I can in my Peg leg v6 mustang. For my Z28 I have to dump the clutch then apply brakes. But anyways, I love my LS! and if you know how to. with practice you can powershift and burnout in 3rd gear.
The car is fast, trust me. when I first ran it I was running it at the 1/8 mile. I got it from a 9.3 to a 9.0 that night
the next time I cam I got it from a 9.0 to a 8.8. and the 3rd time I visitied I ran 8.7 to 8.5s consistently.
If you know how to drive them, they are fast.
