Okay, two ways to answer this: Are we talking about the intake tract (manifold, throttle body, coupler, MAF, air baffle (stock) and air box? Or simply referring to the intake manifold?

the INTAKE is the intake manifold that sits on top of the motor...then the lid is like the induction system..

Several different ways of describing this as previously mentioned. I personally would consider the intake as everything in the induction path, from lid to manifold.

Word I'm with you on that. If somebody says they are changing out the air intake, id assume they are changing lid, free mods, etc. If they said they are getting a new intake, I'd assume intake manifold.

Well if you are talking about air intakes in and around the ls1 crowd just say "lid" otherwise when you say intake people will 95% of the time assume intake manifold.

For all intensive purposes when somments comments that their only mods are intake and exhaust they mean something along the lines of a CAI, throttle body, lid, smooth bellows, etc.

The actual intake is referred to as the intake manifold in most situations- but if someone says they need an LS6 intake the 'manifold' part is understood.

In reality the "intake" would compromise of all of these parts and probably even the heads which are as important a part of the intake tract as anything else.
