Default Dealer mark-up differentials?!?!

Ok, I went to the local chevy dealership here to get an oil change, balance and rotate, etc....So while they are busy I decide to check out the cars on the lot. Instantly I notice a 98+ trans am on the front row. I go up check it out its a 2001 T/A with 30,020 miles on it. No price listed. I have a friend who is looking for a 98+ F-body so I thought sweet I'll get a price on this and tell my bud. I go inside and ask how much they want. $23,000!!!! Then he asks me what kind of car I have and if I would be interested in a trade. I told him I had a 2002 SOM Camaro SS and wasn't interested. I just looked at him in disbelief that they would charge so much for an 01 T/a with that many miles and its not even a WS6.

I paid $21,500 for my SS last october with 18,000 miles on it and mine is an 02.

They want $23,000 for the T/A now with 30,000 miles and its an 01????

^^^ Does this make sense to anybody? I think I will continue to buy chevy products from the ford lots if this how much chevy is markin stuff up on the lots.

I don't think that price is any more of an ****-reaming than the price you paid last year for your car.

Just my .02.

Well, I went to the ford dealership to get rid of my 00 GT and get a new cobra to be honest. But they cheapest cobra they had on the lot was an 03 with 32k miles and they wanted $32,000 for it. I saw the camaro SS for $21,500 and said I'll buy it. I don't think I payed anything to high for the car? Plus I got a good trade in price for my GT. They gave me almost $11k. Just so you know, I've had plenty of f-bodies and Stangs, fast is fast I don't care the brand. But I do prefer GM over Ford.

I'm just saying it seems just as bad a deal as that TA would be. I mean, I bought my SS for 14,800 with 12k on it back in 04. The thing about your car is the SOM cars usually go for a bit more. As long as you're happy with it, then who cares.

They gave me almost $11,000 on my trade and considering i bought the GT for 14k and I put 26,000 more miles on it $3k loss on the GT wasn't anything to freak about.

Yeah, but how much could you have sold it for yourself ....it saved you taxes on 11k through the difference, but I think you overpaid by 3-4k for your car....thats all...like the guy above me said...if youre happy thats all that matters....

me and my dad found a *NEW* 05 corvette, SOM with cream interior, 10 miles, $39,000 in michigan, for sale. here in SoCal, saw one with 11,500 on chevy dealer lot, they wanted $51.. EXACT SAME THING... Some dealers are clueless. although some buyers are clueless and dont negotiate for the spare tire.. maybe they get lucky with the suckers that wander by... who knows.

lucky. I'm still waiting for that deal to come. I'd kill myself if I ever paid too much for a car.

There's a 02 WS6 M6 with 14k on a used car lot around here and they're asking 26.9k for it. Funny thing is I bet some dumbass around here will pay almost that much for it.

What they ask and what you're actually going to pay is going to depend greatly on the dealer, how long they've had it, etc. I was looking at an '02 Formula with 41k when I was looking for my car, and they were asking $19k. When I couldn't talk him down under $18k, I got up to leave, and all of a sudden, $16.5k and I could take it home that day.

I waited, looked around more, and found my 02 Z28 with 22k for $16k a few weeks later.

This was all in October & November of 05.

How much they have it priced at has alot to do with how much money they already have invested in it. They have to put it through inspection and still make money themselves. Granted alot of the cars are overpriced and could be worked down a few thousand. P.S. I just started selling cars so I'm seeing it from the other end of the desk this time haha. But good deals can be found at dealerships.
