Default LS1 Life Span

I sold my lt1 and am now in the market for a ls1. Looking at getting one and keeping for the next few years. How long is a ls1 motor good for(miles) before it goes down hill, same w/tranny? Looking at one with around 83,XXX and 93,XXX.

I have a friend that has a '99 Z28 with about 120K miles so far (stock internals, only bolt-ons) that still runs very strong. I think he recently had the 4L60E rebuilt though.

whenever I go to the car sale (i look at the onlnie lsit everyday though) almsot every car is wrecked so this wont be very accurate sicne their lives were ended short but the highest mileage ls1 we have seen up there was at 143, so def not as lnog as an lt1 since we constantly seem them in the 300k range sometimes

find one with really high mileage and then use it as a bargaining chip, get the car cheap, pull the motor, use the saved money for a 408!

yea we see LT1 with super high miles, and the cars thata rent wrecked so bad and run are driven thru and auctioned off, and a lot of them still run really well but never go for much because of the miles. im sure the ls1 is reliable but with an all aluminum block, it jsut simply wont outlast an lt1 motor since its an iron block when both have been maintained regularly

The LS1 is everybit as reliable.
I cammed mine at 123k and it now has 145 on it..Uses no oil and the only thing I have ever repaired on it so far was the clutch and water pump.

mine had 53,000 when i bought it, and at 56,000 it blew up on me. i was like WTF??? i started to lose faith in it. Never had a hint of anything going wrong. never knocked, smoked, nothing. it was well maintained. The mechanic said it looked like the oil pump went in it. i didnt even have a chance to turn it off. i just friggin blew up. but im thinking thats a rare case. cost me a bit to replace. but at least i have a 3yr warranty on the new LS1 in it. its been 26K miles since and running strong with bolt ons
