Really its how bad you want the car.
I just checked NADA here at work and per the loan value, the car isnt worth that much.
These are the numbers I got.
Trade in - 19625
Loan - 17775
Retail - 22550
I would see if I could get them down a little closer to loan value, but thats just me.

personally i would stick with the camaro..i like the looks better and the performance is going to be better so i dnt knwo why you would by the gto...if it was an 05 i would consider it b/c of the ls2 and the hood scoops look alot better. but i mean the price is only average sounding i bet you could get a btter deal..if thats what you really want..

If you look at comfort level, build quality, model year (don't forget the absolute newest f-bodies are going on 5 years old), and daily driver status, the GTO's a MUCH better car than an f-body. Don't believe me? Ask Dr.Evyl, he currently owns 2 LS1 F-bodies and a LS1 GTO.

I go by what we use at work, and thats NADA. Not my numbers that are off.

Thanks for the feedback guys.....much appreciated. My Z28 is a nice car....but I guess after 5 years of owning an F-Body, I'm just ready for a change.
While I'd love to grab an '05 GTO, they are out of my price range right now....most of the ones for sale around here are in the 26K-28K range...too much for me to pay for a car.
I had never considered the '04 GTO to be an option, mostly because of the 50 less horses when compared to the '05, and the 500 more lbs when compared to my F-Bod. But after having driven two '04s with the M12 tranny, I'm totally sold. The car really scoots, feels just as strong as my Z28. The ride quality and comfort are top notch. The looks, while not as aggressive as say a WS6, are still pretty sharp.....IMO at least.
As far as this car goes I think I'm gonna let it slide. They are not going to budge...even though the car has been on their lot for over 3 months. I told them to get it down to $400 a month for 60 months with $1000 down.....they could not meet my terms....closest they would come was $444 a month. Too much for an '04 in my opinion.
The search continues....my Z28 is a nice ride, so I can wait until the perfect GTO comes up.....then the Z goes up for sale.

Honestly I f I were you, I would just stick with your Camaro. I had a GTO for a lottle while and I did a couple of things to it and got very bored, very fast. I love my Camaro, IMO it is way better than the GTO's. Then I sold the GTO and bought a 2003 Corvette ZO6 . I must say that was the best trade-in I ever got!! My Camaro is my DD and my ZO is my weekend fun car.

Thanks for the input. You've got my dream garage btw.....a Z28 AND a Z06.....damn!! From what I've read on this site it seems that a lot of F-Bod owners who switch to a GTO are really happy with their decision. I just don't see how a car with 350-400hp could get boring. I'll admit, I love how the F-Body is a raw muscle car. But the all around package that the GTO offers is just really freakin' intriguing to me right now.

It got boring to me because I found a car that had over 500 rwhp, in stead of 350 rwhp, so the trade for me was a little too easy. Yeah it has been a dream of mine to own a Camaro and a Corvette since I could say the word car. When I bought my Camaro I could have bought an SS but I thought any Chevrolet can be an SS, but only a Camaro can be a Z28.

save your money! wait til next year if you have to. by next year the '05 cars will be down thousands and you'll have a few thousand extra saved. don't just jump on something because you can. don't buy the car you don't want just because you can at this very point in time.
i'd personally never buy a 5.7L '04 GTO...it's short 50hp and has a *blah* hood. get what you really want. good things come to those who wait.
no doubt the GTO is a superior car to f-bodies. they're far more quality oriented. don't just jump on whatever you can get. they're worth waiting for.
