Default 3 Car questions?

Im new to cars. Just started taking a big intrest in them about a month ago and I have acouple questions.
1. I know the LS1 is a good engine but whats the difference between the LS1 and the LT1? Im interested in getting a Pontiac Firebird(been my favorite car since I was 8) and I saw that some have the LS1 and some come with a LT1.

2. Also I want to know what a lid is? Is it the same thing as the car hood?

3. What is the difference between the LS engines. Ex: LS1 and LS2 ect....?

the ls1 is newer than the lt1, therefor is about the same displacement (346 vs 355) but has more power.

ls1>lt1

the lid is the intake box that takes in air to the throttle body.

ls1= 5.7liter small black chevy.
ls2= 6.0 liter.
ls6= ls1 with a differnt head/cam/intake combo, offered in the c5 z06 corvette

An lt1 is actually 350cid. It's still basically a standard 350 chevy motor that gm made some necessary amd unnecessary changes to. Thay are great motors but in all honesty I would rather just have a gen 1 motor. Not feeling the reverse flow cooling system or the optispark. The heads did work better than the old style(thats why gm switched to vortec heads) and the induction system was way better than the l98 motor. The ls1 was pretty much completly redesigned and for the most part has no interchangeable parts with a 350.

I think so too. Aluminum blocks are the way to go. As well as all the other improvements they made.

I have a 97 with the LT1. I had a buddy that had a 98 with the LS1. We took them for a dyno day, and my stock and I mean STOCK was only a few HP under his stock. I think he pushed like 310, and mine was like 286. Also, keep in mind that his only had like less then 60,000 miles on it, and mine was pushing 100,000 miles. I can't complain about the LT1, because it has been really good for me so far. Are you asking about this due to you buying one. If so, then best of luck to you and post pics after you get it.

i thought LT1's were rated 285hp flywheel...you're telling me they're disgustingly underrated? i'm confused. i'm not saying you're lying. i'm saying that's INCREDIBLE if it's accurate.
