Default modding decisions

i just bought a 98 trans am ws6 and i have like 1500 to spend on parts only, i work at a shop and i get all my labor for free. its an a4, completely stock and im looking to make it into a street drag car. i need some help on deciding parts, i was gonna go cutout with maybe armor coated pace setters and an aggressive cam, with the bolt ons. help me out with the choices please. i just sold my vr4, so im used to awd, so anything that will help me hook up is a must

For 1600 dollars, you should look at basic mods.

Start with a Lid, then look at the exhaust. LT, Y pipe and a cutout or catback. Then look into a converter. That should really wake the car up. Pretty much what the guy above said, only I wouldnt go with 4.10's on the A4. They might be a little too steep if you drive alot. Look at 3.73's.

Lid, Cutout, Stall, Cooler, Shift Kit, that should do you just fine. Oh, no on the 4.10's.

LMAO,...yea,.I agree. I think it'll cost you 1500 bucks just to start realizing exactly how much more $$$$$!!!! its gonna cost ya to get even into the low 12s- to high 11s. Keep in mind,...our cars,.aint light as **** like a hundia buddy! I think mine alone has a curb weight of 3600lbs and some change to boot whereas a new Z06 weighs arround 2800lbs.

I've spent right at $1500 on performance parts so far on mine and this is how my tab adds up thus far. I highly suggest if youre on a tight budget like me to find good used parts.

SLP FloPac - $275 Jegs
Magnaflow Catback - $375 partsamerica.com
QTP LT's - $480 used off here
ORY - $150 Local exhaust shop
Tune - $250 PCMforLess
________________________
Total - $1530 And I've installed everything on the car myself not including the ORY the shop fabbed up

Dont spend any of it on bolt ons. Save 1500 more and buy a used supercharger off ebay and make it quick.

come on, get outta here with that non-sense
Stall and Nitrous will definetly net bigger gains and he can still be under $1500 like he said

2800LBS?!? An Enzo is close to that, not really the new Z06. Its curb weight is 3130 LBS.

Stall, 3.73s, LTs, SFCs, Cam + Valvetrain, Nitrous. You'll have to scavenge to pull it off for 1500, but it could certainly be done. And then when you have money again, do some bottom end work, forged internals, and step the spray up to a 2 stage. Read through GM high performance, Nitrous is by far the easiest way to get you into 10s, and you can keep your car fairly streetable while doing it. Just make sure you don't kill yourself in the process, or you'll be on my list of statistical reasons that teenagers shouldn't have LS1s...

This is the order I plan to mod my 99 A4 TA in:

Basic mods -
Tranny rebuild to 550hp/tq rating (I don't plan to cross 500)
LS6 valley cover kit (keeps the intake from drinking oil)
New lid
Free ram air mod
PHR relo kit
Catback - magnaflow, corsa or maybe true duals in an H setup (cost will affect this)
Headers - longtubes with catted y
!EGR
!AIR
Dyno tune

Later mods -
LS6 intake
Cam - undetermined specs yet, need a dyno tune result to plan better
Upgrade TB (port/polish, maybe replace)
Upgrade rearend - 12bolt
Dyno tune
Maybe some suspension work

Since you are planning a long term project, I would hit the basics first - intake and exhaust. If you have an A4, plan to get the tranny rebuilt.
