It's an RPO (Regular Production Order) code that GM uses to signify a package. Z28 is also an RPO code. GM has popularized the use of RPO codes as model designations over the years.

Point is, the letters/numbers are just a code, they are not an abbrevation for anything if that's what you're thinking. No different than CC1 = T-tops, GU2 = 2.73 gears, 81U = Bright Red, or LS1 = 346ci SEFI OHV "GenIII" V8.

Nope. SS is different. That's not an RPO code. The actual RPO code for the SS cars in the LS1 years was WU8.

PS. SS was originally Super "Sport", not "Street".

SS stands for super sport. RPM WS6 is correct; WS6 is just an RPO code.

Yes, on your driver's side door jamb you will find a sticker (SPID sticker) that has a bunch of these 3 digit codes on it. These are the RPOs associated with your particular car.

As for decoding them, personally I've memorized quite a few over the years. I think there is a link floating around this website somewhere to an RPO decoder, try a search for it.

Edit:

Here's a link for you: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....5&postcount=17 However this link does not cover them all. There are hundereds of GM RPO codes.
