It's an RPO (Regular Production Order) code that GM uses to signify a package. Z28 is also an RPO code. GM has popularized the use of RPO codes as model designations over the years.
Point is, the letters/numbers are just a code, they are not an abbrevation for anything if that's what you're thinking. No different than CC1 = T-tops, GU2 = 2.73 gears, 81U = Bright Red, or LS1 = 346ci SEFI OHV "GenIII" V8.

As for decoding them, personally I've memorized quite a few over the years. I think there is a link floating around this website somewhere to an RPO decoder, try a search for it.
