Default Just tried topping out

Howdy! I just tried topping out my car for the first time and i hit 130 on an empty interstate and damn...that was enough for me and my friend. What is my speed limiter set at again on my 02 LS1 M6 with Z-rated tires? and what are other cars set at?

There always seems to be some discrepency on speed limiters.

158mph is certainly a common one though, and that's where my 2.73 gear auto tops out which is ~5600rpm in 3rd.

I would guess the M6 will either be the same or slightly higher due to gearing. 162mph is a speed I've seen posted before. I've also heard that the M6 Fbody's should top out at 170-172mph in stock trim with just the speed limiter removed.

According to hp tunners 155 is where mine was limited to. Never tried to hit it before I removed it though.

Stock M6 speed limiter is set at 162mph. Although I don't ever recommend taking your car up that high. I had my formula up to 155 mph and I tell you it gets damn shakey and the *** starts to get very light. I very light touch of the brakes at that speed causes the car to want to start fish tailing. Plus if your tires are not in the best shape and you have a blow out say good bye to well just about everything. I can tell you one thing though. If you ever pass a cop at 150+ just keep it on the floor. HEHE

I just installed an Incon twin turbo and it pulls 120+ mph just on the interstate entrance ramps. I havn't topped it out yet though.

I usually just blast through a couple gears and then shift into 6th and let it coast down to normal speed.

Just because a car can go 150 mph doesn'e mean it can go 150 mph.
I used to own an 01 mustang gt that I took up to 140 on the interstate and it floated real bad. I have gone as fast as 130 with my ta and it felt quite stable. I am not sure how stable the 4th gen's are at top speeds. I am sure with suspension work and what not that it can run at those speeds for any amount of time. In stock trim I highly doubt it.

well, about 4 years ago flying through the i-15 toward vegas i had the cruise control on at 130....no problem, car felt awesome, it felt like i was in a cadillac (smoooooth). i went up to 160 with no problem, and it just felt like it wanted to keep going. my younger stupid years and gone though, but it was a great feeling. honestly my car felt great and not like it wanted to fish tail when braking like others have said.

I took it to 160ish once. Felt pretty stable to me. Then again my suspension isn't stock.

I was racing a mustang one night on the way home & hit about 130 in fourth & then shut it down. I hardly ever go that high with it b/c of OK HWY patrol. They will nail you one way or another.

My '98 SS topped out at 147 before it hit the limiter. I don't go that fast anymore... Guess I'm getting old

sandro arellano did you head through the gorge bookin it? I want to do that so bad in my T/A but need new tires before I pull any crazy driving.

On topic, as others have stated, you limiter should be set at 162. As you felt, 130 is hauling *** and I'd be damn sure I could handle that speed before trying to get anywhere near that limiter.

I hit 150 in the GTO not long after I bought it, didn't even know I was going that fast until the o/speed beeped at me (which was set at 130), My wife looked over and said "holy ****!" I looked at the speedo and decided to slow down a bit. Haven't had it over 110 since.

at 162mph as long as you have your suspension in good shape, your wheels are well balanced and your tires are in good condition, it'll feel pretty stable. The aerodynamics wreak havoc on a f-body car around 170mph+ (decent hp mods + limiter removed).

In stock trim, my car pulled to 150mph, but a wheel imbalance on 1 rim made me think twice about keeping speeds that high.

I hit the rev limiter in 5th gear in my late '02 WS6. By the online calculators that I have used it was 182 mph give or take a few. It felt pretty stable at those speeds, but I wouldn't do it again. I now have a 2000 Sebring Silver SS A4 as prefer to play at the track and A4's with a stall are the ****!
