Make sure you're doing it at EXACTLY the same speeds in his car and yours. High 20's to 30mph should force a mighty downshift, although it might depend on which gears you have.

He should have 3.23s because he is a WS6. But his friends car might not be an SS/WS6 and could have 2.73s. This would cause it to be able to downshift into first at a much higher speed and feel stronger.

ok its simple my buddy has a mildly modded a4 01' t/a ws6 and if hes doing 40 (moddified shift points on dyno tune) an he punches it it will down shift to 1st and you will know b/c your head will be ripped off your body and fly in the back seat.....if your not scared when it does it, its not working so have it looked at asap....your 1st gr downshift may be like 20ish if your stock shift points are still in effect

On my brother's old 00 TA w/ 3.23s, you would have to be doing 30mph or less to get a 1st gear downshift and it was AMAZINGLY violent. Just 1 mph too high and it would be a lazy doggish 2nd gear pull. HUGE difference.
