Default Just cause I'm curious, 98-00 w/ls6, or 01-02?

I was thinking about this and I'm curious about it. I know they changed the cam in the 01-02 LS1's, but I don't know how much it affected it. Would a 98-00 engine with the ls6 intake or a stock 01-02 engine be more powerful?

the 98-00 would have advantage. the 01-02's have only the intake manifold for better equipment. the cams is actually alil weaker. wouldnt think it to be that noticeble though just slightly.

The cams in 98-00 are larger, so they have the advantage with the LS6 intake. Probably a 10-15 hp advantage.

The 01-02s have better exhaust manifolds no? I always thought the 01-02s dynoed more. IMO They'd be close to equal with the LS6 on the 98-00. However thats just my opinion.

The '00 actually had the good exhaust manifolds as well. Which is why without a tune some guys argue that the gain felt with LTs and NO tune is minimal, vs on a 98-99 where the stock manifolds were more of a holding back point. Just my opinion, but I didn't put two and two together about the bigger cam AND LS6 manifold, very interesting.

2000 Z28 M6 Stock manifolds, cats, and Y-pipe....334 RWHP 340 RWTQ with mods in sig. The only mods made with HPTuners was turning off EGR, changed the fans, CAGS delete and limiting max WOT timing to 26 degrees as opposed to the stock 28 degrees because the engine likes to detonate at 28 degrees. No fuel changes with stock fueling AFR was 12.4:1

In 2000 is when they changed to the smaller cam and better exhaust manifolds.

1999 and 2000 also had 26 lb fuel injectors, whereas 98, 01, and 02 had 28 lb fuel injectors.

So they put the smaller cam in in '00, but they didn't change it to the LS6 intake until '01 o_O? I thought they changed them both the same year?

So what we are getting at is that the 2000's would have the most advantage with the LS6 intake, unless 98-99 had LT's.

I have a 98 and I went with 2000+ ported exhaust manifolds (black bird) and I will be hopefully getting an ls6 intake soon. Do you think i whill need a tune after that??
