Default Contemplating going over to the Dark Side

I currently have a heavily modded (thought still slow, 14.4@98.5) mustang 5.0 H/C/I car.

It does not please me.

In the next year or so I have some finances that might make it possible to spend 12-13K+TTL on a car.

I want a 01 LS1 M6 Trans Am with 65K or less miles. I live in the south but will pay to fly anywhere in the lower 48 if I get the right deal ($500 plane ticket and $200 gas vs. $1500 saved, for example. WHY NOT!? Why must ppl buy stuff in their back yard all the time )

I also want to mod it immediately. My plans are window tint,Cags skipshift eliminator, SLP loudmouth cat-back, and a SLP lid. WILL I NEED A DYNOTUNE TO ACHIEVE PROPER A/F WITH THESE MODS, also, how much rwhp should I get with those 2 mods (lid/catback)?

This car is not going to be about power. The lid is $90 and I want the sound, that is the reason for the mods chosen.

Not 100% sure im going to be able to purchase, but I want to know what im getting into if I do and if my demands are reasonable. Since this forum included "Enthusiasts" I can post

you wont need a tune w/ that stuff. lid and catback might get you 20 rwhp

I'd also say about 20 more rhwp (I'll estimate you will have about 320 total rwhp). Then you will have a car which is 1 to 1.5 seconds faster (depending on driver) than your current ride. Don't waste your money on a tune until you at least get some long tube headers.

Don't feel too bad about your mustang...I'd bet it would beat my 4x4 2 times out of 3.

My goal if I get this LS1 TA is to have a refined (comparatively), powerful (goal of 310whp), economical (I heard M6 on the highway knocks back 27mpg, my 95 TA A4 2.73 got 25mpg, so I can belive it) car that looks damn good, can handle most things (mainly 350Z's and the 05+ mustang GT's that everyone seems to annoyingly worship).

How loud is SLP? My 5.0 is pretty mean (shorties,OR X-pipe, force II flows) and its sets alarms off all the time. I am not necessarily wanting something THAT loud, but I want something that when I nail it it scares the **** out of those around me.

Thats very uncool imho. I want something refined and under $500. What do you recommend? I want this thing to be WICKED under WOT, but other than that I would like somehting that wont have much vibration/impede normal conversation inside the car.

WOW!!!! Borla is like $1000. That is more than the entire exhaust setup on my current 5.0 from manifold to turndown GMMG is $700. I would go GMMG maybe, impressions?

people sell used catbacks all the time. I've seen used Borlas sell for $400. GMMG also has a nice cruising sound and loud at WOT.

Dyno-tuning isn't really needed on a 6-speed until you put a camshaft in the engine.

I'd get some TSP duals with Sweet Thunder mufflers, if not concerned about emmisions...

They are (very) loud, but once the car warms up at idle they are very bearable.

It's amazing how deep it is at idle, and how nascar-high it is at high rpms/WOT.

I'll sometime get a clip of mine up...

And you'll get headers too, which will also give mo powa...

For the price of GMMG you could get coated pacesetters and the duals, and probably save money.

The 5.0 is a wonderful car that is and always be a racing legend. I have owned a few including a vortech t-trimmed 393 stroker GT that would run 9.80's on 275 drag radials. I will always love them, and they can still be wicked fast.....now the catch: it takes a really good H/C/I combo to even run with an LS1 in stock form, and with the new generations of LSx based engines arriving every year it takes pretty much a stroked SBF with an awesome H/C/I to be competitive with quick LS1's...Join the dark side....you wont regret it at all.....I know i dont. Good luck Stanger88

Thanks, yeah, 14.4@98.5 out of this HCI turd woke me up to the fact of either join em or lose to em.

My friend has an LS2 GTO and he added LT's and a cat-back and didnt get any hp from it until a tune. I do not want to spend $500 on a tune and I would hate to waste my time and money on LT's without getting any hp from it. That is why I just want a cat-back and a lid. This car will be fast enough with that to do what I need to do.

Well, I picked up the speakers (they are shitty) but I liked the GMMG. It wasnt repulsively loud and it had a DEEP roar to it. Awesome!

I know this isn't a catback suggestion but I think you owe it to yourself to hear this out-

I heard an SS with pacesetter LTs + fabbed X-pipe (over the axle) + sweet thunder mufflers and it sounded amazing. Everything I'd ever want out of my exhaust- deep, powerful, and yet tame at idle. But insanely nascar loud at WOT. You can be quiet when you want to, and scare people if you like, but no matter how loud it is people will be able to tell it's powerful.

The guy put in the headers himself and had the rest fabbed and welded and it ran him under $1,000. The power gain alone would make it a very worthwhile $500, and I could say the same about the sound.

But for what it's worth my philosophy on exhaust always was- either go all out and do it right, or spend $65 on a cut-out shipped and welded. Why pay $500 for less power than a cut-out? even if it does sound a bit better.

With less than 300 bux in mods I achieved 326whp and 342 ft lbs of torque.

Slp Lid - $89
SLP CAI - $110
Flowtech Cut-out - $30

With the cutout closed, so just lid and SLP cai, I put down 317.XX

Go cutout, cheaper more hp, and sounds bad ***.
