oil change light
What causes the oil change light to come on? I changed my oil under a 1000 miles ago and I check it weekly but my light has started coming on.

I think the GM oil change life system takes into account time spent at certain rpms, total time running, and milage, then magically figures out when the oil should be replaced. Throttle position and engine load probably go into the equation too. I notice at work that the easier you are on the vehicle the longer between change lights.

Like he said, it's just a calculation. It doesn't have any kind of sensors or anything to determine that the oil is dirty. It also means that you have to manually reset it when you change the oil.
To reset it, turn the key to "on" without starting the engine then press and hold the trip reset button for 12-14 seconds. The oil light will turn off or flash. Turn the key off and then start the engine.
