Default CHANGE OIL light? I just changed it!

When I crank my car, the change oil light comes on. Sometimes it goes off before I get where I'm going, but it always comes on on startup. My last oil change was within I think the last 400 miles. I checked the dipstick and it was full of oil (at the top of the operating range I mean). Does this mean something is seriously wrong or can I get this code cleared so it doesn't annoy me everytime I start up. Can this mean my car is burning oil? or my oil pump is going out? Anyways need some help on this guys.

When you changed the oil did you hold in the oil/trip reset button for more than 10 seconds or so. This resets the oil miles counter, not visable but tells the PCM to start counting to the next oil change. Think its 10 seconds, perhaps a little longer. Car dont need to be running, just ignition on.

Casey, if your car still has the manual in it check to see what it says.

you need to turn the car on to the accessory, and pump the gas or brake I can't remember 3 times, the light will flash, and then when you turn on your car it will be off and start counting again.

Oh, if it ever comes on again I'll try pumping the brake. But it's off for now I guess holding the trip button worked.

you pump the gas (not brake) 3 times quickly, the light will flash and it will be gone. this method can be used w/ a lot of GM cars

If it comes on again, it's time to change your oil. Should be ~3000 miles when it comes back on.

At my work(GM Dealership) on most of the GM vehicles, you turn the key to on and then pump the gas pedal 3 times within 5 second to reset the counter. On some, I have to go through the radio controls.

On my '99 it's hold in the trip reset button. For your specific year you should read the owners manual. They are on this website, look in stickies.
