Question about "Old Man" cam
I have done all the free mods, I have headers, or-y, catback, lid, tune, Im ready for a noticeable power gain. I want to keep this a street car and only a street car. I don't want any of my low end taken away. I think I'm going to get Thunder Racing's least aggressive cam: the "old man". They dynoed it on a 2000 Trans AM and got 30rwhp gain and 20rwtq. Since I have a smaller cam than the 98-00 cars shouldn't I notice a slightly better gain? This is the only cam that doesn't recommend a tune/stall/3.73s. It retains the same powerband as stock on the dyno sheet, all the other cams have way less power than stock from idle to like 3 grand but make up for it up top. This cam has more power off idle and steadily more power through redline. Would I notice any negative side to driving on the street everyday with this cam? It seems like the perfect cam for me and at a good price. By the way the grind is:214/220 .600/.523 115 LSA. Someone please tell me if this is a suck-*** cam or not for a street-only car. I don't want 450hp out of it and it loping at stoplights so this should be the right one just wanted your opinions firsrt before I buy anything cuz you guys know your sh*t...

It really depends on what YOU want out of the car. It sounds like you dont want the lope and dont want to do the stall/gears. I think if you're going to do a cam you might as well do one right, which is one thats more aggressive than the one youre looking at. If it looks like what you want go for it.

IMO, that sounds just like the cam you have been looking for. It is your car and you are only looking for a moderate power gain while keeping the stock drivability, so it sounds good. However, I think you could go a little bit bigger with a little more power gain and still be where you want to be as far as drivability...

Does the LSA have anything to do with the gains? What's the difference if I get a 112 LSA cam and one with 115 LSA. The one with 112 will lope and idle violently?

The CHEATR cam is slightly more aggressive with stock powerband, however it's 117 LSA. I've never heard of 117 for these cars, what would be the difference in it and the Old MAn? Old man:214/220 .600/.523 115 LSA... CHEATR: 214/230 .601/.578 117 LSA. The cheatr looks to be a very streetable cam as well with more of a gain probably but I'd have to get dual valve springs that's like extra $200.
