Default Should i become the owner of this LS1???

Heres the deal I need some advice from some people who know what they are doing.

I have a 94 firebird formula 6 speed, good shape, runs good, 16" eagle alloys, 2006 kenwood cd player, new tires, drilled brake rotors, ac, pl, pw. new opti, cap, rotor, and egr valve.

Now i found a Black 2001 Trans am ws6. 97,000 miles. It has tan interior, was a smoker. but seems to be in good condition, but far from showroom cond. I drove it and it runs good but the o2 sensor is going out, and he said he would replace it before sale. No Major Defects at all. Every thing is operational.

I owe 5,000 on my car, so he said he would pay my car off form me, and take it, and sell me the WS6 for 14,900. Should i take the offer or not. comes with a 3 month/3,000 mile waranty.

It is the only one in town and I asked around and all the dealer ships said it will probly be around 6 months till another one comes around. THANK YOU!!!

I think it's great you were able to find a person willing to do such a trade for a newer vehicle. But I think you should talk him down to an even 14k. $5000 for your car is actually a good price he is giving you, I am just trying to gauge the overall price you are going to pay for the 01 firebird. I think it might work out ok for you if you pay him 14,000, considering your vehicle is not worth $5000 but the guy is still paying off that loan for you. SO think of it this way, you can go from a 94 firebird to an 01 for an extra $9000. Sounds good to me.

Do you think that it will be bad that the 01 has 97k and my 94 has 105k or is it still just a badass deal?

Also do you think I will regret getting rid of the m6 cuz the T/A is an auto.

Not at all, at least you are getting a newer vehicle by 7yrs. Even if it has around the same mileage, at least its 7yrs newer parts and less time sitting idle. Plus it's a WS6 so those are always costing a little more. Actually, even if you can talk him down $500 it would be good. Let's wait to hear what some of the other guys have to say, as this is just one guys opinion!

I think the LS1 engine and being a WS6 will still outperform your 94 formula. So the auto over manual is a personal choice, but if you really enjoy manual then I would say think it over more or keep looking for another newer vehicle which is also manual.

Heh I'm surprised not more people have helped you. If there is no button located underneath the radio controls then it does not have TCS. And if anything that makes it better. I've read many threads where people say how they forget to shut it off and their car ran significantly slower. Whereas if you dont have it (like mine) you never have to worry about it.

Edit By the way, yes it was an option in every year (98-02)

TCS sucks as. I wouldn't buy an F-Body with one (if I had the choice between with and without). Their brakes systems suck to upgrade. Earl's still doesn't make a brake line for the TCS. Plus with TCS you will probably always turn it off, nothing worse than forgetting to turn it off when you "need" it off. Just don't peg the gas and it has no purpose.

Active handling is a wonderful thing but with the handling part TCS is just lame.

Hell my Scion xB has traction control. I have no idea why the hell they would put that on a vehicle with 106 hp. I couldn't spin the wheel if I poored bleach on it and drove it over ice.

Freakin' charge me for traction control but don't have cruise control what the hell!

15k for a 95k mile WS6 isn't bad since he is giving you 5k on your trade-in.

That sounds like a pretty good deal. Any more history on the car? is he the first owner? has it ever been in a wreck, etc?

$9,000 and your car is a fair price as long as that warranty is for real. That will protect you for a bit. Make sure the car runs out well if you haven't run it yet. Get Carfax too to make sure. Good luck!

Personally I wouldn't do it. You can get dealerships these days to do some crazy stuff to sell cars.

I wouldn't pay more than 14k for a WS6 with almost 100k miles, especially since its a A4. And yes, I am taking into account the fact that he's paying off your car.

jmho.....save some money, pay off the car, and find a nicer LS1 to start out with. they are out there if you look hard enough.

Just be careful. Dealers can be shady. I say go back and look at that car and go over it with a fine tooth comb. If need be find a mechanic or someone who knows a lot about the WS6 and bring him along. That's always been advice given to me before I bought any car. WS6's are really nice and can be hard to find. If your unsure, I say wait till another one comes along. Kind of like buying a house. Don't always buy the first one you see.

Well I know Im new to this site but I've done some reasearch on LS1's because Im currently in the process of getting one. I live in the Bay Area, CA and as you all might know living cost here is not low. My friend found a 02' SS with 14k Miles and got it for $16,250 from a private seller. Nothing wrong with the car just a small front end accident. I know that the F bodies are becoming more rare to find these days but there are plenty of good ones out there.I have to agree with Cyphur and Camaro Girl. Dealerships will do anything to sell a car. Im sure you could find a better one.
