Question Need Help w/ check engine light

Does anyone have any advise on the following:

2001 WS6, only mod is a MTI lid, any way Wed or Thur. when we had the flood in The Woodlands, my wife drove through some "deep water", not enough to stop the car, just deep water as she called it. After she went through this water, the check engine light came on and has remained on. The car seems to be running just fine. Can anyone tell me why the check engine light came on, and how do I get it to turn off / go away? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Bring it by your local Auto Zone, etc. they'll read it free. Post the code(s) when you get it. Might be cause of the water, or just a coincidence.

Maybe a sensor got wet and threw the code. It will erase it self after 25 engine cycles if nothing is wrong or, like stated above, go to autozone and have it scanned and erased

Lightbulb code # P1416

Got the scan, code # P1416 secondary air injection (AIR) system bank #2. The guy at Auto Zone said it was a "dealer code". Car is running fine. I did find some info. on another thread that stated it was from water getting into the intake system via the air filter. It also recommended to change the oil just in case water did make it into the intake. I am going to try to disconnect the battery, and O2 sensors for 10-15 min, re-connect and see if they go away. I trully appreciate everyone's help, and if anybody has any more info for me, please send it along!

I greatly appreciate the info., but I am very new to the LS1. Can you possibly explain where it is located, or do you have a link with "how To"?

ok if you look carefully at the exhaust manifolds you will see a tube on each side with a rubber hose attached to them. The hose attaches to the check valve and the valves are screwed onto the tubes.

you're welcome, the valves are about 10 each at autozone.I would remove the tubes from the manifolds because they can be very hard to screw off.I take the tubes off and put the part with valve screwed onto it into a vise(be sure not to squeeze the tubes)only the ends. Then take a large wrench and turn them off.I always use anitsieze on the threads so next time you won't need to pull the tubes.ALSO be sure to check the tubes for built up carbon or oil residue.I had one tube that was completely blocked from carbon throwing that code.Normally the valves just get so full of carbon they get stuck. Also while you have the hoses off use a vacuum to clean them out.Any dirt or garbage in the system will clog the valves and cause a code.

I changed right and left side air-pump check valves and still have the SES light on. Any other ideas or suggestions?

Won't go off immediately unless you reset the PCM or delete the code, P1415 and P1416 should shut off after 3 or 4 ignition cycles (probably cold starts since thats when the AIR pump comes on) without a failure though.

I'd just wait, but if you want to reset it:

Turn key on, don't start car
Pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment
Wait 5-10 min
Turn ignition off
Replace fuses

This will also reset all the emissions readiness tests, and make the idle a little grumpy until it relearns.
