which gas is the best???
hey guys I have always put the shell v-power gas in my 00' ta and I think its the best for my car, but the other day my dad had my car and he put in reg.shell and the cars sounds a lil more aggressive and I got better gas mileage, slightly? I bought the car with 24k miles and now it has bout 41k from hw driving and have always changed her oil round 1,500 miles with mobil synthetic so which do u think is the best gas for this V-8 beast? I hope to hear from you guys soon, thanks.....does 87 octane hurt thr engine because in the manual it says ur suppose to use 91, but I hope u guys give me some great info!

The car will run on lower octane, just not as good. I think the computer reduces the timing to compensate, or something like that.
And don't get caught up on brand names. There's not even a guarantee that if you buy gas at Brand X station that you are getting Brand X gas, particularly in a rural area. Most people will argue with me but I've worked in a refinery and seen what tanker trucks pull in....

There are already many threads on gas brand/octane, and I'll say here what I did there....most all name-brand gas is nearly the same. I also have worked in refineries and oil yards. Gas companies buy time off a pipeline....meaning Amoco gets its gas off the same pipe that Exxon and Mobil does, most times. They add in their own additives, but the differance is minimal. It's all the same, just use a good name brand, or an off brand that you know and trust, and use super, either 91 or 93, whatever is in your area.

91+ octane is recommeded for best engine performance.
E10 (10% ethanol) is just fine. That's all my '98 has seen since it's birth, living in the upper midwest that's the only type of premium we have.
But I wouldn't use E85.
93 ethanol isnt bad is it?
But I wouldn't use E85.

I worked for cumberland farms as a deisel tech for a few years and would have to some times go to the loading plants to get trucks moved off the filling racks. i couldnt tell you how many diff manufactures all go to the same place for the same fuel. i know for a fact the only diff between any brand is the additive mix they dial in at the fill rack. shell claims to put a cleaning agent in there 93 and they do. but so does everyone else in every octain rating. this isnt just an asumption. ive seen it done. so do like i do and drive 15 mins out of the way full throttle to get the 93 thats 3 cents cheaper. you have already waisted more gas than its worth but you feel better about paying less lol.

You're changing your oil too frequently. Especially since it's synthetic.
I fuel up on 91+ octane. I had detonation problems with anything less than 91 in my old LT1, and I don't want to play that game with my LS1.

I use 93 only, either Shell or Mobil typically. I try to stay away from the super small no real name gas stations.
I also change my oil every 6,000 miles using GC 0w30. It has no more and in most cases LESS breakdown than mobil1 5w30 does at 3,000. Sometimes I have to add a quart somewhere between changes due to consumption.
