Default Bought a 00 Z with lots of mods just need some basic ?'s answered

Hi all! I bought the Z a couple of months ago and have been mulling around here and have bought a thing or 2 from members.
The car is a one owner and the fella put on mods as he needed them.
Engine is stock from what he told me with the exception of a comp cam # 54-000-11 which is a 581 lift and duration at .50 is 224-224. Heads have a stage 2 with springs to match the cam. Good cam but I've been told cams have come a long way since that grind. I dont know. Also has ceramic shorty header that look great but of unknown brand. No cats. full exhaust with a flowmaster. Also has a SLP lid and a funtional hood.
Tranny, M6 with a McLeod master cylinder that you can adjust. Pro shifter, and a Spec stage 3 clutch. Tranny shifts likes new so I'm thinking it's not what he used to race with.
HD steel nitrous drive shaft. (that is what the receit says?)
Moser 12 bolt 33 spline, 4 channel, with a 373 gear, and a Truetrac posi.
BMR boxed subframe conn. welded in, BMR adjustable torque arm, and tubular lower control arms.
Suspention is QA1,fronts are coil over and back is springs and shocks. (sits low and mean!)
Has 315's on the back with a 10.5 American Racing rim.
About the only other mod is a TNT 150 wet nitrous system. Most of my receits are from all the extra parts for that. All the saftey stuff, AN fittings, MSD control box...... about a grand in stuff, probably more.

All I've done is a LS6 intake, BBK TB, 28lbs injectors, and replaced the add on external fuel pump.
I need to go get a tune! Runs rich at start up but fine after it warms up. I live in Central IL and have spoken to Toni at Outlaw and I'm going up there pretty soon. All other work was done at Speed.
ALL THAT AND I'M FINALLY GETTING TO MY ?????

1. I'm leaning twards a 4.10.
2. Better cam?
3. Get rid of the N2O, and buy more stuff that I'll use.

If you think of something the car would benefit from please reply. I absolutely love the car. The colar, the stance, the wheels. The guage pods....... Love it ....Love it.....Love it.

Your thread (this thread) is in the "New ls1 owners" section now, don't know where it started...

3.73s are a good gear for M6s, not sure upping to 4.10s would be worth it, lot of shifting involved with 4.10s, fun if you're not a daily driver, but many people live with it.

That is a good all around cam. Unless you are going to go drastically bigger, I would leave it in there. It performs great for what it is, should put down some awesome numbers with heads, close to or over 400 rwhp.

I'm not a fan of NOS, so I say get rid of it...

You might want to think about changing the Flowmaster, they are known to be not good for performance, depending on what kind. If it's the catback, it definately sucks. Would consider another catback that's good all around like Magnaflow.

As far as performance, you would definately benefit from a set of long tube headers. shorties have hardly any gain on ls1s. If you can get around emissions in your area you won't find any single mod as helpfulp as longtubes.

Don't get rid of the nitrous because someone is not a "fan"!
Nitrous is great! There when you need it and installed when you don't.

Seriously. Why get rid of something that is only there for "assistance"?

Longtubes are your friend. I would stay w/ that cam unless you're drastically upgrading it. Keep the spray too.

Honestly. that is a stout rear. You don't need taller gears if you keep that current cam. You wont be able to shift fast enough if you go taller.

Sounds like you only need to fill the bottle if you ask me.
I would leave it as is. Sell that TB and get a ported stocker and have 150$ left over.

So long tubes seems to be a majority vote? I'll need some part #'s. Might as well go duals too? I saw a post of a fella who put about 2 grand into that setup. So my gear is fine? Only reason I ask, While going slow in 1'st gear it chugs. I have to push in the clutch and start over.

As for the gear , I assume that was the gear of choice with the nitrous? Run out of gear in the 1/4 in 4'th?

Is the T/T's T-Tops?

I'll try and get better pics soon. Camera really cant get a good view of the stance. It's pewter too.

Whats wrong with the BBK? I had a ported and pollished TB and went with the LS6 and the BBK cause that was suposed to be an upgrade, right?

I do have a very important ? At 2000 R's the engine shakes. I can see and feel it with the hood open sitting still and revving it to 2 grand or on the road in 4th gear at 2000. I think I notice the most in 4th because 1st, 2nd , and 3rd flypast 2000 so quickly you don't have time to notice. It ain't the tranny, or drive shaft or the rear, or a bent tire. If you're under the hood and slowly go past 2 it shakes right through 2000 grand and then goes away. I hope it's a tuning issue. Not the flywheel.

One other issue. I have one cylinder with what I assume is piston slap at cold startup. It lasts until the engine gets completely warmed up and then is quiet as a mouse. No ticking, or anything. When I bought the car It didn't have a piston slapping. then I changed the oil to 5w Redline and that is when the slapping started. Thinner oil? Not too much of an issue, I just wait till she's all warmed up to get on er. It does sound really bad at cold startup though. I should take a quick vid of it so you can hear it. You'd probably say, " HOLLY ****"! But like I said, I wait till it's warmed up to wind it out.

Your gear is fine, no need to change. Check out my gear ratio page for information on how fast you would go in each gear:
http://ubfm.net/ratios.htm

You're not going to run out of gear with 3.73, 4th is good for over 123 mph @ 6000 rpm, 133 mph @ 6500 rpm, your cam is good to at least 6500 rpm.
