Default ls1 ?'s

Hey everyone, I currently own a 2001 Ford Lightning but I'am taking some heavy consideration about buying a 99-02 LS1 F-Body. If I do sell my current truck and buy an F- Body I will have roughly 10-15 grand to spend on it. I wanted to keep the Ls1 but run it w/o spray or f.i. My questions are what I can do to the motor, how much power I can get from it, and how much that would run me. If I have some more $$$$ left over I would also like to invest in suspension, brakes, tranny, and a rear end. I have tried searching for this info but I could not find what I really wanted to know. So any of your input would be helpful and if you have a link to what I am asking for that would be great as well, thanks in advance.

10 to 15K is alot of money. You could do alot of things with it. Drop an LS7 in it or heads, cam supercharger, and upgrade the tranny and rear end. Wish I had that kinda money to drop on my car,

is that $10-15 grand on the car and mods, or what you will have left over for mods after you buy the car?

The 10 to 15 will be what I will have left for mods. I can probably get close to 20 grand for my truck with all of the after market parts taken off, it only has 9,000 miles.I have looking around and ive seen f-bodys go anywere from 13 to 18 in decent shape. I have some other money saved up too .
Thanks for the input everyone.

Why not just mod your truck? Not a Ford guy myself but I'm a bit partial to performance trucks and the L's are decent from what i've seen of them.

It is modded, I have a JLP long block with a 2.3 KB s/c. It runs low 11's on my street tires. The reason im looking into getting an f-body is that a want a m6 and I could make it faster then my truck with half the money. Nice truck BTW.

Built bottom end, heads, cam, blower. You could put down some serious numbers with that kind of cash

Yes read up on the stickies! They have valuable information for ls1s! You want to become familiar with the mods, and how they work, before you decide anything. Only then will you grow an appreciation for what's out there.

Here's another good one, Induction and Exhaust:

yeah man, with that kind of money you can make some serious power. id say its probably going to cost you $5k for a new rear and to have your trans built. throw in about $1500 for some suspension mods, and that will leave you around $7-8 for the motor. try and find a car with the minor bolt-ons(exhasut, lid, headers, etc), that way you will have money for the good stuff. and how it was driven before doesnt matter all that much, since your going to be replacing most of it anyway(12-bolt, rebuilt trans, bottom end, etc).

The LS1 engine is AMAZINGLY tunable. With a few well thought out mods, you can have it putting out really high horsepower.

Good luck and enjoy!
