Default "Oil change" light

Im just wondering what makes this come on?? I change my oil regularly and it only comes on at times. Are there any certain things that make it come on? Does it go by mileage? And how do i reset it?? Thanks!

On my hawk you set it by turning the key (don't start) and hold the reset trip mileage for like 4 sec, and that resets it. As far as light coming on I believe mine is set at 3,000 miles, but I never get that far, I change my oil early. lol. Only saw the light one time when I forgot to reset it.

It's the GM Oil Life System - it's explained in the manual, can come on anywhere from 3-10K depending on your driving habits. Don't use it myself, I go by mileage. You reset it by turning the key to RUN, don't start car, press and hold the oil reset/trip button the dash until it goes off. You can also turn key to RUN and fully depress the gas pedal 3 or 4 times. Once it sets the light it should only come on for a few seconds after start up then go off until you reset it.

It's based off mileage. There's two ways to reset the light. The way I use is turn the key to the on position and then push the gas pedal three times. The light will then go out.

The oil life system is based on engine revolutions and engine operating temperature, not mileage.

it will blink once in a while then eventually it will stay on. dont remember what milage this happens at but, driving habits/conditions/milage all work together for light to start this sequence.
