Default Very Confused!

I have a 2000 t/a LS1, and i am looking around at the Gen-III LS1s, and i am seeing that some alternators are near at the bottem of the motor (near the oil pan) and some are at the top (near the intake manifold). What is the diffrence in the engines? I look around on here and some guys have alternator is in one place, and a diff. car the same year and model the alternator is in another place. I looked on Google Images and the alternator for a Gen-III are in both of thoes places... My alternator is at the bottem (near the oil pan).

Whats the diffrences between the engines?
Thank you!

F-body LS1 = bottom
Corvette LS1 = top

Pretty sure thats the only difference. The Corvette has a different intake "lid", and exhaust, but the actual engine itself is the same.
