well they use 3157 bulbs, where theres two filaments. one is the tail light, the other is a brake light. maybe on the right it is shorted so that both filaments are on at the same time. if theres moisture then thats very likely. id say replace the bulbs, and see what happens, and look for moisture or calucium buildup in the socket.

okay i just took my left tail light cover out. and guess what:
1. no moisture (there was 4 mos. ago. where'd it go? and how'd it get there??)
2. the bulbs couldn't be any better
3. this is the big one: my left tail light cover is darker than the right one. darker! like a darker shade! what the hell right? how is that possible?
i'm speculating that the original owner somehow busted the original left tail light cover and replaced it.
but the thing is why is it darker? its a darker shade. it's obvious in the day light as well, even without the brake lights on.
what do u guys think?
thanks!

Sounds like you may be onto it. I mean, if the taillight itself is way darker, its probably been replaced, or at least it would seem so. Could always check a junkyard and see if they have one. Hell maybe you could swap them strightup if the one they had was closer to to shade you need. Odd though. Keep us posted.

Same thing here on my '1 T/A.
Looks like the driver's side is darker than the passenger...
Is this a GM blunder?
I find it hard to believe that several people from all over north america could have the same 'replaced taillight'...

I have the same thing. 98 TA Convert. My rt taillight had moisture in it and was darker. I was under the impression that the previous owner took the lens off and tinted it. Till Now....

Same problem in my 98 T/A, but i have an idea as to why, its because i purchased one on ebay off a 02 T/A and that one is brighter and shinier than my original. Had to change it because some drunk hit me in the left side rear.

I had the same issue when I bought mine. The light develops a leak and lets in the moisture. The moisture inside the light corrodes away the refelective paint on the inside of the light thus giving it a darker appearence.
Only way to fix is to buy a new light. I looked for a while and was able to find a new one for a i believe $180. Be careful with ebay lights as the main reason most of them are up on ebay is because they have this problem.
