im new to ls1 and recently bought a 02 police interceptor that runs like a scalded dog but i am wondering if there is a reasonable cam kit and what size of cam should i go with that will keep me from needing a stall converter any info muchly appreciated.

depending on that rearend, ALL cams like stalls....even the smallish cams like 224s want a 2800-3000 stall.....i mean if you go with some like 220 maybe, but your not going to get the most out of your cam, and then its also not really worth installing such a small cam for the results you will get.....ripping apart a motor for maybe 20hp just doesnt seem worth it to me

You will prob need a Stall and I would recomend the Thunder Racing Cheatr cam if you not going to get headers or a 22X 22x on some X-ER lobes...Texas Speed has some great cam kits....

If a stall is a no go for you, then go with boltons instead of a cam.

You can free up quite a bit of power just with bolts ons.

Why no stall?

Even stock it'll make a MASSIVE difference.

Personally I'd go for a 3500rpm stall, some bolt ons (intake, Lt's, exhaust) and a sensible cam. TR224/224 as starter, IMO anything less is simply a waste of swapping it in there, but if you fancy a bit more wild take a look at the TSP Torquer V3 or MS4.

However if you live in CA then you'll need a rethink.
