Swap steering wheel?
Is it a big deal to swap the steering wheel on my SS? It's looking kinda ratty and the wheel-mounted stereo controls don't work since I have an aftermarket sound system. I like some of the Barry Grant wheels available. Any suggestions? I will also be losing the airbag in the process. Should I be worried?

if its just the stereo controls your worried about you can buy a kit for like $40 to work with an aftermarket head unit.
what do you mean by ratty? is it torn and **** or just dirty. try using some leather cleaner on it.

Repacing a wheel is not hard, back when I worked at a shop I had to replace about 6 wheels a month, or at least pop them off and fix some lame thing like the ignition on those damned fords

The leather is somewhat torn and "pitted". Perhaps a nice leather cover would help. But I might reconsider removing it if I could work the stereo controls as you suggest. Where would I find the kit?

If your radio does not have a wired remote input, but it does have a IR remote, then you can use a PAC SWI-X. Its the uniiversal IR adapter.
If your radio does have a wired remote input, you can use the manufacturer-specific adapter PAC SWI-?. (Example: PAC SWI-PS works with Pioneer and Sony).
You can buy the PAC device on Crutchfield and SoundDomain. The price runs $50 - $70.

That and a cop can decide to be a jerk and ticket you since it is illegal to take off a airbag.
Same thing with aftermarket seat-belts, they can ticket you for a racing harness and say it isn't safe...

if i were you...just do what i did....and get a steering wheel from a junkyard that doenst have the controls on it, and then use the same airbag and put it back together again...just be careful because the 2000-2002 steering wheel is different then the 93-99....and you dont wanna change styles....for the simple reason = steering wheel from a junk yard, $50 airbag, $570 so make sure you get the right one
