Default Engine whine??

Hey guys my first post here. I got a problem with whining on my trans am. its a 99 with the LS1 motor 55k on motor. I got it three days ago. Its doing a bit of whine as I give it a bit of gas. Sort of like a super charger, but im thinking it might be a bearing going bad, on my water pump or something. I cant recall if it had that whine the whole time i had it or not. But Im hoping its nothing serious if anything at all, like my crank bearing or something. Im kinda sweating it real bad!! Anyone know if a bit of whine is normal, or what might be going on?? Thanks guys

Mike

whine means it's reving! jk spray wd40 on tensioner pullies if it goes away that is the problem, samething to other pullies except crank pully. that theory wont work with that one. hope this helps some.

It could also be the sound of the intake sucking in air. We swapped out intakes on my GF's Mustang and it whistles now when you give it gas. It might just be that.

Is it a Manual?

If you put the car in neutral does the whine not occur?
If you put the car in gear but keeping the clutch down does it whine then? increase the revs does the whine change pitch?

Mine did this, I thought it was the release bearing in the clutch, change this and it wasn't the problem. But it does seem to be to do with the input shaft on the transmission. I noticed it about 30,000 miles ago, and it hasn't gotten any worse.

I cant say its nothing to worry about, I only know mine didn't get worse and its held up for many miles like it.

Mine whines just like yours and I am not worried about it one bit. Never had an issue, oil pressure is great, doesn't use oil, no problems. If I say its nothing to worry about, you can bank on it. I am the most **** retentive bastard on these forums. BAR NONE

Yes, he is. If it doesn't bother him, you're good to go!

It might sound a bit weird, but.... turn the radio off.

Sometimes you can pickup a 'whine' through the radio.
I noticed it on my satalite radio more than anything...

That'll be a bad earth, or you need to sort out the suppresion on the power to the radio.

I think the whine we are hearing is mechanical. Good thought though, another cause to eliminate.

The radio was stolen out of my car along with my G-tech.
Don't have to worry about the ground anymore =\

Alternator? I read somewhere our alternators, or GM alternators in general, have a tendency to make a slight whine sound.
