Whats this number mean.. when someone has their car for ex. 1998 camaro ss #1256

That would be the number of the car as it was built.

k thats what i thought. how do you find that out? ive seen people at car shows with papers that look like they are from the factory with options and number and stuff. i know my way around the engine pretty well but im not up on the paper work....

That is the SLP build number, not GM. All SS and Firehawks have one. You have to call SLP to get it.

not all ss and ws6 were slp

Some LS1 SSs have additional SLP options(Y2Y) but many, like mine, are "base" SS and also went through SLP. There is some argument there but they do all have SLP build numbers. The Firehawks are also SLP cars. The WS6(LS1) was converted by ASC, not SLP.

call SLP (248-288-3066) with your VIN number.

All SS Camaro's, starting in 1996, was made by SLP.

SLP made the Firehawk starting in 1991.
