Newbie here and to the LSx engines
Hello, im new here. I joined in '05 but never really looked around much or posted till here in the last few weeks. Anyways, im looking in to buying a FD RX7 with the LS1 swap Can't beat 2700 lbs and a bolt-on 420+ rwhp LS1
What im wanting to know is, out of curiosity, what are the differences between the LS1 and the newer LS2? I looked thru the FAQ above and didn't see it, so if I missed it I apologize! Im just wanting to learn more about these badass LSx series engines!
Thanks guys!

All the LSX engines are aluminum block, pushrod. Many of the parts are interchangeable between the engines.
LS1- 346 CID (97-04 C5's/98-02 F cars/ up to 04 GTO's)
LS6- 346 CID (01-04 ZO6 ??)
The LS6 is the same displacement as the LS1 but everything else is different, the LS6 components are common upgrades for the LS1, since the LS6 is a badass 346.
LS4- 5.3L ( FWD Impala/ FWD Monte Carlo)
LS2- 364 CID (C6 /GTO/ Going to be in the new Camaro)
LS7- 427 CID (C6 Z06)
LS3- ?? ( Beats me...)
LS8- ?? (Rumored to be factory supercharged ??)
LS9- ?? (Or maybe its this one that will be??)
The LS2 is capable of hitting 400RWHP with boltons, but so is the LS6 I believe but don't quote me on that. The LS7 is... well I don't really need to go into that one, it's just
My favorite thing about the LSX engines is how they have a lot of compatible parts, for instance its common to put the following parts on an LS1:
LS2 Timing Chain
LS6 Heads (243 casting)
LS6 intake manifold
LS7 lifters
LS7 Clutch
LS2 flywheel
LS6 oil pump
LS1- 346 CID (97-04 C5's/98-02 F cars/ up to 04 GTO's)
LS6- 346 CID (01-04 ZO6 ??)
