Default launching for a newbie

Like the title says, my car is a stock 01 t/a m6 with a SLP lid, short throw, and BFG 275/40ZR-17 98W RBL tires. How do you guys launch so well????? When I try I just give it some gas, let the clutch out then WOT it. Are you supposed to WOT it when you launch?

not on street tires, WOT launches will be alotta spinnig in place but a great smoke show, ya gotta think about these cars peak torque which is at 4000rpm on the stock cam and heads, so launching around 3-5k is gonna be alotta spinning on street tires, try launching around 2200 or so, seems to work well for me and i am stock size 245/50-16 z-rated tires, you have a larger contact patch so traction should work in your favor, hope this helps

BE careful, you dont want to break your rear end. I would recommend against a High RPM dump with sticky tires and a stock rear end.

Which is why it doesn't take as much skill to drive an auto.

Launching a M6 is hard to get used to. If I do a 3k dump on 275 street tires, the car will roast them through all of first. For a stock LT1, this is bad.

there is no set way...i really cant launch past 1500 on my street tires, but i launched at 4500-5000 on my MT Street Radials...just depends on how sticky the track is and how well you hook, just a little bit of spinning is fine, just try diff rpm launches, the tracks not always going to be the same either.

it doesnt take as much skill to drive an automatic as it does a M6, but i dont know if it is as much skill as it is seat time and practice, a good M6 driver will hang with automatic boys at the track if the cars are comparable in weight and hp, and a good M6 driver will kick the **** out of an A4 at a road course, but automatics pack the consistency factor because an automatic eliminates the driver from the equation, that is why anyone can race an auto (i.e. jacob....just put in drive and go), it takes alotta practice to be good on the 6, but if you get good it is fun and rewarding when driving it

Learning the M6 isn't like sitting and reading a book and absorbing the info because every car, every transmission, every clutch, every road and every track will present different factors that fall into play. When i am at the track I have learned that MY car on street tires likes to be launched at around 3200 slipping the clutch while advancing to full throttle once the car has started to get the weight in motion, i have learned to be to be good on the clutch pedal to let it dictate how much power i'm trying to get to the ground instead of an all out "alright i've got 1st gear engaged, FLOOR IT!". i also had to completelt relearn my launch technique when I made the change to 4.10 gears. It felt like a completely different car. I almost never have to use 1st gear on the street.

Learn how to slip the clutch, on street tires I wouldn't go past 3500, that's a bad idea. Definitely don't dump the clutch either, or floor the car until you are moving. It will take some time to 'learn' the car and find out how the car reacts to what you do with the clutch.

If I launch mine at 1800, it spins.

I suck at launching my 10 bolt on street tires.

You cant really launch good on these cars unless you have suspension, tires, and rear end....thats an adrenaline rush there.

You go wot as soon as you sense that the car is moving enough that you're not going to spin. That point can be different for every car and its something you have to learn through practice.

i am yet to run my car at a track or 1/4 mile (cant wait to though) but 3000rpm seems to work for me. 8 times out of 10 i can launch hard with bugger all wheel spin, stock clutch...true story
