Too much HP
I've always wondered what makes an engine blow. Do certain blocks/internals have specific HP ratings? And if so, where might I find that sort of info. Thanks.

Thats a really broad question man. Of coarse everything has HP ratings as far as internal components of the engine go. There are sooooooo many different ways that a motor can pop. Whether it be to much HP, oil starvation, to much F/I, detonation, and the list goes on and on. Check out the internal engine section to check out some different combinations and horsepower levels.

every engine has it's limits. Most of the time it is because guys push their bottom end to far 5-600 hp. If you just do bolt-on or cam, keep up with the maintenance, it shouldn't just implode. Driver error would also have something to do with it. (hard life, from flooring it every where). but yea, the list goes on and on.

Fatigue is a big factor too. An engine can be built near its limits, and it'll last for awhile, but for how long? Too many factors that go into play to be able to accurately predict. Just get a forged shortblock w/ LS6 oil pump and run it N/A and you should be good..

Whenever your running more horsepower there is more pressure put on the internals of a motor. If a motor is not prepped and built for a certain amount of horsepower then it will eventually blow.
