Flowfaster Exhuast
Hey I just got a flowmaster exhaust on my WS6. I have some questions.
Do I have cats?
If I do can I take them out so that it will be louder?
Also how much does it cost to take them out"?

If you left the rest of your exhaust alone (assuming no one modified it before you), then yes you still have your cats. Look under the car DIRECTLY under the hump of the floor panel in your passenger seat. If there is a oval box looking thing, that's your cat (there should be another one on the other side up next to the engine right off the manifolds).
As far as taking them off, it's technically illegal b/c of emissions and smog regulations. So finding a place to remove them might be a bit difficult. Depending on how stingy your area is on emissions, just look around and ask local shops. If not, find a buddy that knows how to weld and see if he can fab you up something.
The sound w/o cats, IMO it sounds a bit more "airy" and a little louder. But mind you, this is w/ LT headers and a 3" TSP Y-pipe. My guess would be louder though on stock.

i believe the cats were located elsewhere on the 00-02s on the passenger side and that bump in the floor was designed around the 98-99 cat location.. but the cats are box type looking things with rounded curved edges. If your ypipe on the drivers side looks like its been pancaked, its stock y. and im sure yours is. Now, time for a new catback or a cutout.

Yeah, my bad. I got a 99.
Maybe not as much louder as a different tone. This is based off pure assumption as i have not soley taken off the cats and left everything else stock. When i did my exhaust, i went all out (headers, Y-pipe, up until the I-pipe).

my first mod mistake was a flowmaster. it replaced quickly with no muffler. if you want loud just get a cutout or you can be lazy like myself and just pull off everything after the y-pipe.

Reason I ask is that IMHO the Flowmaster sounds better than most every other single pipe into dual outlet muffler exhaust out there...How much "worse" (alledgedly) for performance is this setup?
Does anybody really know, or is it just hearsay/opinion? I'm really curious about this because I have personally built/owned a 500+rwhp car that ran no differently with Flowmasters than it did with supposed much better "flowing" mufflers...
Can anyone elaborate with facts?

Yes there have been may posts of Dyno results before and after flowmaster cat backs where there was no gain over stock using a flowmaster cat back. I read a thread where an F-body was Dynoed with a flowmaster and on the same day dynoed with a magnaflow. magnaflow picked up 9hp. Its the Crossflow style flowmaster that is really horrible though. Usually the standard style flowmasters are better and the less chambers the less restrictive they are.
