Default Question about 241 and 243 heads.

Ok so I bought a longblock from a guy, he said it was a LS6 longblock. So I had the machine shop rebuild it etc... Well we just noticed now, that the heads are stamped with 241?? That means its a LS1 right?
What are the block numbers also?

LS6 heads are 243's?

Thanks
Josh

Right, 243 are the ls6 heads and 241 came on 00-02 ls1's

Edit: not all 2000's had 241's, some had the 853 castings

I don't know the answer to your question, but just want to add that if you had them ported, there is next to no difference between the 241's and 243's, I've read.

Thanks.

Well the heads have some mild work done to them, so maybe I will use them for now and then when I have the money get something better than LS6 heads.
We have to get this engine in the car, so we done have any time for a head swap.

I am kinda mad now, damn it!

Anybody know the numbers for the LS1 and 6 blocks, then ones on the block?

the LS6 block is much darker in color than an ls1 block. The LS6 will be a very dark grey block. Go get me the number off the block and il tell you what it is.

BTW contact Jon Reynolds of TSP they got those 5.3L ported heads and people are seeing very very good results, and they come assembled with ferrera race valves, and dual valve spring set up I gained about 42 rwhp with them.

Word. I wouldn't really be worried about it unless you paid too much, then I'd be all over his ***. But it's really your own fault for trusting them.

The last 4 numbers on a LS6 block will be 1168. Some of the later 2002 f-bodies had the LS6 block with the 241 heads. The 243s only came on LS6 engines in ZO6 Vettes and then later on LS2s also.

Didn't you look at the engine before you bought it? The heads have 241 right up front. Like stated above, could be LS6 block with LS1 heads. I'd rather have worked LS6 heads than block.

It might be an LS6 BLOCK and not be an LS6 engine.

Some of the last F-Bodies got LS6 blocks I think with all other LS1 parts, including 241 heads, but I could be wrong.
