The ECT sensor is located in the head right by the #1 cyl (drivers side front). If you're replacing it make sure you get one for a '98.

Just one...the LT1 cars had two sensors, one in the head and one on the front of the engine - believe one was for the gauge and one for the PCM.

The PCM needs the correct coolant temp, and for correct temp gauge readings - are you throwing an ECT code? It's cheap and easy to replace.

well i took that sensor out infront of the headers of the driver side and i took it to my local autoparts and they told me that there was two of them but one that takes two wires it is called a engine coolant temperature and the other one that takes four 3 wires (it looks like the ine i have right now on my hand )was called a temperature switch so im confused
i would like to kno if thats true or is it that the sensor that i have is a combination sensor that sends one to the dash and one to the pcm??

I'd start another thread for the clutch issue. It's a pain the bleed, if a shop installed it bring it back.

It's my understanding the '98 has a 3 wire ECT sensor, the '99 and up has only 2 - that's why the '98 gauge actually works.
