Replacing stock LS1 with LS2, 6, or 7?
I think I'm in the right area here.
Will an LS2, 6, or 7 drop right in in place of the LS1 and match up to everything including the 6-speed? Which one will drop right in and which one may need some modifying?
Here's what I'm looking at http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/Pa...l.jsp?engine=2

LS2/LS6 replacement Engines
The LS6 will be a drop in replacement.
The LS2 will require some adapter harnesses, new front cover (cam sensor) & valley cover (no knock sensors on top) and you will need to make sure it has the earlier (24 tooth?) reluctor wheel.
Either setup is very easy to work with.
I'm not sure about the LS7.

What kind of car/year model do you have. If the engine is in good shape, you could put some CNC'd 243 heads (same as LS6/LS2) and an LS6 intake/throttle body on your engine, an LS6 or slightly bigger cam and reprogram your computer and you'd have a better engine than a crate LS6. As I recall, 2001 and after LS1 engines had the LS6 intake anyway.
