is k&n oil filter worth the extra $
My question is k&n worth the extra dollars.....that's what I'm running now. How about ac delco, fram and purolator...they're much cheaper. Also, is german castrol the same as castrol gtx. My car has 80k and I wanted to try and quite that tapping noise in the engine at cold starts

IMO the kn is not better. I run a ac delco, extra dollar oh well. Also the GC is not the same as gtx. For more info why the GC is better search through the best oil thread I believe in the lsx discusion forum. Decied for yourself if you would like to run it. I just swapped it in two days ago and havnt put any miles on it yet.

Honestly I think the k&n is garbage. Nothing like an oily maf to prove it. Even if you dont over oil it, it still gets on there a little. I use an amsoil filter and just buy a new one when I need it. The k&n is expensive and probably doesnt filtrate the air as good as the paper filters. IMHO the claimed horsepower is not worth the sacrifice in filtration.

Whoops. Sorry. I run the k&n as well as the delco's. I think both are good.
EDIT: How the hell did I miss the title. I feel like a moron.

The K&N oil filter is a VERY nice piece, and so is the Napa Gold (made by Wix). But whatever you do.. DO NOT run a Fram. They have a cardboard filter and it can break apart and float through your engine.

Thanks for the info. Reason I purchased the k&n oil filter is because I can use a 1 inch wrench to put it on in that tight spot. That's easier than using a oil filter wrench

I run the K&N for one reason principally - 1" nut. Love it - I can never find my oil filter wrenches (I think they are in collusion with my socks)
I run the air filters too (in all my rigs) it's not rocket science to clean and re-oil. never had a problem.
