Leave the MAF alone. Port the TB.

Trust me...don't mess with the MAF no matter what people might tell you.
Guys run 9's on the stock MAF. Find power elsewhere. Don't create tuning
issues for yourself.

The only reason you would pick up any power is that you'll be leaning out
the tune. If that's what you're looking for, just get a tune.

MAF is calibrated to work as is, and the general consensus is that it is good for up to about 500HP. If you want/need a new MAF, look into a new one but I wouldn't suggest porting your stocker.

i'm looking to port my tb as well. but what is the problem with removing the piece of metal in the maf(not the screen or the sensors, the piece that supposadly directs airflow). and i dont mean to hijack the thread, but hopefully this will help us both.

i have heard it is ok to port the maf as long as you get a tune right after what i would do is buy the ported ends and then if you need to you can put the stock ends back on if you are having problems. And definatley port the throttle body.

I don't agree with that statement. It's perfectly fine to remove it.
I suggest removing it.

^i pulled my screen cuz im running a dry shot, it runs perfectly fine, but it will occasionally hunt for idle, and there's a little hiccup at idle that wasn't there before i pulled it

shouldn't you be fine with ported maf ends after a tune? I understand that one.

I guess I just don't understand your guy's logic. Why in the world would you want
to mess with the MAF? Anyone running 10.0 @ 140mph in this thread? I've personally
seen guys run that with the stock MAF. Don't mess with it.

The LSx platform is incredible in terms of picking up huge power from bolt ons and / or
minor internal mods. Look for power elsewhere! It's so easy to find even a Ford guy
could find it.

I ported my TB, easy and helps. I also pulled the screen from my maf with no problems what so ever. I wouldn't suggest going any further then that with the maf.

The maf is calibrated to work under specific conditions, and basically takes a sample of air that is representative of the total air going into the motor through a round tube of a certain diameter. As soon as you modify this, the calculations made by the computer are going to be incorrect(maf is seeing the same air speed, but the amount of air going in is actually greater, due to the larger opening)
