What should I do first?
I have a 1998 Z28. I recently put the Flowmaster 80 series muffler on her.
She has 174,000 miles on her and I am currently trying to find a job because im 16. Any suggestions on what to mod. I want a car thats streetable buy still has enough getty up and go to run at Moroso. Any Suggestions would be appreciated and comment the car good or bad.

give it time to save up...it's worthwhile to do what you REALLY want to the car instead of just putting something into it just cuz you have the money to do it. And that's a great start to an awesome car! I didn't have my f-body until I was 19. So at least you have a good jump on it! Looks nice

don't listen to this guy, he's a sexist moron. do what you want to the car. As long as you take care of it you'll be fine. I know of plenty of f-body's with the mileage getting up there and they're fine.

As to the OP. 170K is alot and most things that went at 100k mileage are soon going to go again + other things. don't let that intimidate you though. if you have ok job why don't you save up for a rebuild and with the right rebuild parts you will be adding quite a bit of horses just restoring your engine to new. i'll post up a rebuild list for you and it will cost roughly 2K but it is far more worth it doing it this way and having a nice reliable engine with internals and then move on to bolt ons rather then fixing/building at same time which is more hassle then it needs to be.
Head gasket kit from GMPP(Head gaskets, valve covers, and exhaust)- $120
Intake Valve Seals($20)
Exhaust Valve Seals($20)
LS2 Timing Chain ($40) PREFERENCE TO YOUR OWN
piston rings ($90)
new pistons(needed them in mine, 2 were burned) ($322)
valve springs from sdpc ($160ish)
Thunder chromoly pushrods ($100)
TR224 cam ($300) OR WHATEVER SIZE YOU WANT
main and rod bearings ($120)
ls6 pcv ($150)
pacesetter LTs and Y-pipe($550) EVEN CHEAPER THEN THAT NOW
crank polish and flywheel machined/various other machine shop needs ($250-$300)
ARP rod bolts ($100)
GM performance parts high flow/high volume LS series oil pump ($80)
miscellaneous odds and ends ($120)
my rebuild was right at about $2600.
minus cam and headers, about $1800

i'm not bustin his ***** i'm giving it to him straight... seriously the first thing i should have done was a rebuild, if you want a damn race car then you gotta get the right parts and what hell is the point of blowing all your money on something that could blow, and then what? sit there without a car for another 6 months well he saves up? because i don't imagine he's banking at his age with a job... SAVE UP your money, rebuild your engine, and go to town after the rebuild

hey..nice car. if youre on a budget the first thing/things you should to to get the most outta that car are free mods. look them up in the external engine forum. go to installuniversity.com and look around there. you should find a free ram air mod w/instructions. a lid is a good mod (a lid is a lid they are all pretty much the same and rated around +5-7hp). if you want a loud exhaust try a cut out. smokin87ta does port/polishing on throttle bodies and its good for about +5-10hp, look him up! get a tune up on it to "refresh" your car.

Would a handheld tuner do any good for now? I was thinking about the Hypertech 3 tuner. If anyone has had any experience with this tuner or should i get a different one? Also this girl i like just got an 07 Mustang GT and me being the die-hard Ls1 guy i said lets race should i have any problem? Both autos by the way.

Like one guy said, just drive it and have fun with it with that many miles just save for the rebuild. By the time it needs rebuilt, you'll have enough to make it fast and give it the look you want it to have. Very wise first car purchase.

thats exactly like my car... except i have the chrome rims and you have a damn ls1...
so you have a z28 and you're trying to find a job, while i worked my *** off and bought myself a v6...
don't mind me though i'm just jealous no one handed me a nice car... and by the way for that many miles it looks clean as hell.

Tuners are useless for the most part unless you got HPTuners, save your money and get a real tune from a real shop.
As far as the chick with the GT, you should pull out the W but make sure your car is running good before you take off. At 174k you have a lot of things that could possibly break, or you could need a rebuild and it could be slower than you think. It should be a good gauge of how strong your motor is. If you walk her, your motor is obviously still very strong.
