mustang to camaro....tech ?s
hey guys...well right now ive got an 03 mustang Gt. got a vortech at 10 psi and full bolt ons, makin just shy of 400rwhp. anyway ive made up my mind that i want an ls1. ive spent many years not liking f-bodys, but for some reason they have grown on me. so im finally gonna take the plunge and go with my gut and trade to the darkside i am a mechanic so i do know quite a bit about cars and i do know quite a bit about ls1's. i have a goal of 550+ with decent/good driveability when its all said and done. i also wanna break at least a 6 sec time in the 1/8 i have about 4k to start with. im thinkin bout a lid, air filter, Lt's, slp loudmouths.
now i have a few questions:
1). typically how much will it cost for 400rwhp from stock form?
2). how much (average) for heads/cam, and install....any other supporting mods with the swap?
3). cost effectiveness of having the ls1 over a blown 4.6 2v?
4). whats the limit on the stock bottom end?
thanx guys

1)2) h/ci will get you 400 rwhp since ur a mechanic should be in the 2,000 - 3500 range in parts depending on ur setup
3)definately more effective than a blown 4.6 which u probably know that 400 rwhp is like knocking on deaths door for a stock bottom end 2v
4)once again depends on parts but there guys on the forum safely pushing 500+ on stock bottom end its all in the tune
hope that helps some

ive raced quite a few f-bodys and they are tough tough competition. i have much respect for the drivetrain ( minus the rearend ). i just want a car that doesnt need 10k+ in mods just to sustain 500rwhp. plus theres nothin better than having an all motor beast. yes i like FI, but theres a point when it gets old. i dunno maybe im biased.
thanx for the info guys. and yea i know a few f-body guys, they are pretty cool. just dont like guys that think because they have 1k posts on a forum that they are god and know everything.

No offense but a 2v just sucks ***. 400rwhp with a blower is nothing to really brag about (again no offense), alot of LS1 guys have that with bolt-ons and cam only. Plus losing boost in the summer time would suck *** for bower cars, and or heat soak in general. You can hot lap an LS1 if you wish.
Peace,
Craig.

400rwhp is a couple grand with LTs and a cam. As for stock bottom end I'd say it will do 500 with no problem I know a guy that with H/C and spray putting 640rwhp on his stock bottom end for a couple years. His bottom end did not go he melted a piston first.

Cam only id go g5x3 for 400 rwhp, gotta have all the bolt ons first though (Longtubes, ory, catback or duals, ported TB, 25% pulley, LS6 intake or better, CAI). Toss on a good set of heads and ported fast 90/90 and you would be looking at around 450 rwhp. A good heads/cam setup is going to cost you anywhere from $2K on up.

Welcome to the community! I have not done anything major to my car yet, just going to be converting my car from an auto to a 6speed here very soon, but from everying thing that I have read on this site 400rwhp seems to be very easy attainable with minimal mods. I know im prolly not pushing that yet but later on down the road I hope to be. Anyway once again wecome to ls1tech
