Default T/A or Z-28

Sorry if posted in the wrong spot. Im fairly new to the Muscle Car realm of the racing world. I had a 3 dsm in the past, but they didnt work out. 1st death cause by N20, 2nd death cause by daully( i ******* hate dodge), 3rd cause by weak tranny, so i figured i'll try muscle on for size. I know it had to be a gm product cause i hate ford (i'll quit racing before i drive a ford). I was wondering the difference between the Ws6 and the SS, if there is a difference, besides price. I know the SS are alittle cheaper then the Ws6. What would you guys recommand starting out with. Thanks for the help.

they are basically the same car. depending on the day i think the ws6 looks a little meaner but they both have the same ls1's, same tranny's and same rears. the interior on the ws6 is more comfortable in my opinion and looks a little cooler. the ss might be a tiny bit faster only because the ws6 weighs a slight bit more. pontiac version comes with a couple more features like a power antenna and power adjustable side bolsters and lumbar support. you'll find differences in these cars with the different years. the 01's and up have the ls6 intake. i also heard that the 2000's had a meaner cam in them but dont hold me to that one as i only heard it from one person.

yes, pontiacs are a little more expensive. IMO i would go with the camaro if your looking to race it b/c of aerodynamics, its a sleeker car. im not sure if they are actually lighter though ws6=ss=z28=t/a only differences are the ws6and ss are APPEARANCE packages and have upgraded suspension/intake. if your just looking for a streetable LS1 (but i get the idea your not) id go with the ws6 looks more aggressive
yea 98-00 had the bigger cam the 01-02 had the smaller cam but had the ls6intake

stock 98-00

duration@.050 198.86 intake 209.25 exhaust
lift .498 intake .497 exhaust
LSA 119.45

stock 01-02

duration@.050 196.37 intake 208.72 exhaust
lift .464 intake .479 exhaust
LSA 115.92

It basically comes down to looks, and price. The SS's DO seem to be cheaper the the WS6's. When I was looking for my LS1 I had pretty much eliminated the WS6 for that reason.

Keep in mind the SS/WS6 packages are mainly for looks. Yeah, you get the ram air and a few suspension goodies, but most mods people do replace those parts anyway, so you're basically left with the wheels and hood.

One thing about the hoods, I remember reading tests of these cars when they were new, saying the WS6's R/A was more effective than the Z's. If you look at the 2 you'll see why, the WS6's is a straight shot to the airbox, while the Z has to make a few turns first.

My opinion: the SS package makes the look of the Camaro, I wouldn't buy one without it.

The WS6 T/A, AND T/A's in general are a bit over the top IMO, I'm not a fan of the side skirts and rear wing. BUT, If I were to buy a T/A, it'd have to be WS6, becasue the hood balances out the wing, IMO. And the 'Birds have the better interior too, at least IMO.

My fav is the WS6 Formula, if you can find one. I ended up getting a '00 non-WS6 Formy, which I freakin' LOVE. I think it look really clean, and I like the sleeper aspect to it. I had one ('98) a few years back too, and more than once I was asked if it was a V6.

Anyway, it boils down to personal preference. Neither will be faster than the other, they just look different.

I'll cast my vote... Trans Am all the way! WS6 or base model, they're both badass. I'm not a fan of Formulas though, they look like a V6 car and I personally think a Camaro looks like a catfish, plus everybody around here has one.

I'd get an SS but maybe im just biased. I've always liked the look of the camaro over the Trams Am. That being said, i wouldn't mind having a WS6 though cause they do look mean.

I prefer the interior of the Pontiac over the Chevy. AFA the exterior, the TA is a bit overdone with all the body cladding. I prefer the Formula over either, which is why I own one. The sleeper look is superb, if that is what you like.
They come in the WS-6 version, but are difficult to find. The Chevy, well, everyone and his brother has one. Which is why they are cheaper.

Take a look at the FAQ sticky in this section for the differences between models and years.

A search will also yield TONS of results.
