Exclamation Should I buy this?!

My friend is selling his 98 trans am.. He took very good care of it, and im sure the lady who had it before him (who cried when he bought it) took good care of it... It is in great condition and very well maintained... The only drawback is that it has a little over 120,000 miles... How reliable are these cars at this mileage? Anything will help..

FYI my SS was a 99 and cam'd, full bolt ons etc. I took good care of it but also ran it hard, who doesn't? Anyway, with 160k on the clock it was still running down 30k cares with similar mods.

How much is he asking for it and what kind of shape is the interior/exterior in? Regular oil changes and other regular maintenance? Did he race it a lot? With those mods, I would guess he beat on it, even though he probably took care of it. Let's face it, we all "take care" of our cars, but in that statement, you kind of have to ignore the whole racing part for it to be considered a true statement. And any Fbody with headers probably doesn't stay below 2500 RPM every time out. Just trying to get you to think about a few different aspects. 120k is a lot on a car that is raced, even on a car that is well-maintained.

Also, 98s are the first year and have their own issues. Do a search on it and I'm sure you'll be able to find a lot regarding this if you're looking to mod the car a bit more.

You still didn't post a price. That'd be my deciding factor.

Throw in the friend card and be like don't I get a discounted price... I would try to get it for like 6500 or 6000 those miles are gonna hurt his price alot.

Not being a WS6 hurts it a bit. Like everyone said the milege is dependant on the driving style. In So Cal that wouldnt last too long for that price but again what shape is the interior in? Did it ever get butchered by someone putting a stereo in that didnt know what they were doing? I would say it sounds like a good price but it just depends on the condition. They are bad *** cars though

I'm sure it's a pretty good car but, ask for lower and save up the money for a new motor and then get the mod bug to bite you.

a little under 7k would be good. I don't really care about miles. My current Formula has 153,200 on it now runs like a top. My previous 98 Trans Am was ran hard and I had her dynoed at 135,000 miles and she dynoed 335hp to the wheels (all the bolt ons A4). If you get that car just make sure to change plugs, oil, coolant etc. Good Luck.

The engine I would say would be fine..the rear who knows haha depends on how much he beat on it. Like above stated, we all say we take care of our cars, and most of us do. We clean them and do oil changes regularly and get everything needed.. but we also well most of us beat on it at some point, I mean how cant you not do a burnout or just wanna rip some gears or get up in the mid 140s or something like that. But I mean the ls1s are touched by the hands of God..so I guess its alright haha

I bought my '98 Z28 at 159k miles. LS1s run strong when well maintained. Just make to set aside a few grand in case a rebuild is in order.
