Default Z06 engine

Im lookin to get a 2001 ZO6 engine to put in my 02 WS6. A guy is selling one from the Intake to the Oil pan. Would I be able to just put this in my car, or will I need to make changes to anything else?

The oil pan wont work between vettes and f-bodies. Other than that it should go right in.

Use the oil pan that is on your car now.

Swap that out and it will fall right in...Externally the motors are exactly the same.

But, while the motor is out, you might as well swap a cam and heads onto it...but at that point there is no need to buy the Z06 motor, just bolt the parts onto your car. Unless your current motor is FUBAR.

Well the zo6 has 6K miles and the LS1 has almost 80K.

Your 02 Ws6 already has an Ls6 intake on it. Really it doesn't make much sense to swap out engines, the Ls1 and Ls6 are so similar. If you want an engine swap at least change to one that will yield a noticeable performance difference.

My LE dynoed 325rwhp/345rwtq, stock. That is a sneeze away from an Ls6's numbers.

so you are saying that a 01 ZO6 engine compares to a 02 WS6 engine. Performance wise!

Yes it compares....The real question is, how much are you spending on this "z06" motor. There are MUCH better ways to go then swappin to an ls6.

These guys are right. The main differences from an LS1 to an LS6 (Z06 motor) is the LS6 intake, which you already have, the LS6 heads, and a different cam. That's pretty much it for the power differences. For the money you are spending on the LS6, you could make your LS1 a lot faster.

and honestly if the engine has been taking care of, who cares if it has 80k on it.

Is this Z06 engine actually out of a Vette? Some late LS1's came with not only the LS6 intake but the LS6 cast block. I've heard 20-25% of 2002's. With a little better oiling but no performance advantage. Either way, not worth a swap.

Not just some, but all 2001-02 F-bodies came with the LS6 intake... and if the motor he wants has 243 heads, it is LS6....

the ls6 cam adds 30-40 flywheel hp.. the heads arent really that big of an improvement over 241's.

I wasn't clear. All 2001-02 came with the LS6 intake. But in addition, some also came with the LS6 (ZO6) block too.

Just swap the heads and cam if you want to make the same power since you already have the ls6 intake. If your going to do that much work you might as well get a real head and cam package...

I was just saying that because the other guy seemed to be questioning if it was a Z06 motor and I said about the heads....

My thoughts exactly.

But at the same time. Why go to all the trouble of doing an engine swap when you could spend the money on your LS1. You will gain even more perf. by dumping the money into mods.

agreed. it doesnt seem worth it to me to swap an ls6 in. id do h/c and not worry about the miles. if you want to change the engine why not go with more cubes

Just swap the heads and cam. If you want to do an engine swap well go with bigger cubes like a 408 but not something that is so similar to the ls1.
