Default I dont have traction control but....

when i turn the key to start and all the lights come on for a sec. i see the traction light come on. I just got the car so could this mean that the car had traction control and was taken out? or does it mean the gauge cluster was swapped out before?

All the gauge clusters are the same. It's normal for it to light up when starting the car

Go jam the brake pedal at 40...when thje ABS starts working the car will tell you that you have low traction...I don't have TC in mine either, I think it's pretty funny when it warns me about traction.

Yeah, the light comes on at start up on my car as well. Wasn't really worried about it.

I thought my cluster was swapped with a car that had traction control and less miles.I have 2001 and it has only 43K from the dealer. I hope it's really 43K and not a another cluster.

Carfax it and find out. I know carfax isn't exactly reliable, but it should give you a rough idea.

i'm assuming the layout on the firebird and camaro would be the same for this. if your car has traction control there should be a button in front of the center console. if you hit the button you'll see an orange light in the dashboard that says TCS off. if you don't have the button then you don't have TCS.

I'm pretty sure he already knows he doesn't have TCS..he was just curious why he had the light.

Everyone has the light, TCS or not.

Camaro's traction control is above the radio and reads ASR.

Exactly. I have an A4 but there is still a skip shift light in my cluster. I don't know if it's ever lit up when i start the car though.

the mileage is not stored in the cluster if the cluster is changed it will retain the cars original mileage so your car really does have 43K you have nothing to worry about

If it has the digital odometer the milage will be stored in the cluster. When replacing at a dealer they order from a company that rebuilds them and they send the milage with so they can enter the correct milage in the cluster.

As far as the TCS light my car has it in the cluster next to the ABS light ,but it does not light up do to no bulb which I never removed. My car is a 94 bird and I don't recall that the TCS was an option back then, but it is still in the cluster. Just with out a bulb.

if thats true then that makes me feel a lot better about the purchase of my new ride. I don't know much about the camaro clusters and how they work, i just know on other cars all you need to do is swap clusters with a low mileage one and thats it. Then i seen the traction light come on in my camaro and thought to myself is this a different cluster because i don't have TC. And that's how this post started, so any assurance that my car is the original miles makes me feel better about my purchase. The low mileage was why i quickly bought the car.
thanks for replys

nope, sorry its not true, the mileage IS stored in the cluster, if you swap out clusters, you "need" to take it to the dealer to have it corrected
