Default Open headers compared to cutout

Well I installed my LT's and an ORY last weekend. I ran around the whole weekend with open headers and LOVED the sound. I'm about to order an electric cutout and was wondering how different an open cutout will sound compared to open headers. Thanks in advance for any input.

Well with my cutout open the car is loud. Gets some rasp around 2000 rpms but nothing I can't stand though. I imagine the open headers would be louder since they are directly under your feet. My cutout is under my passenger rear seat and it does drone in the car, but not that bad. I enjoy the sound of my cutout a lot. It is usually always open.

Yea I'm lookin forward to the cutout because the SLP dual/dual is so quiet. I'm just wondering the difference in sound between open headers and an open cutout. Does traveling through an ORY affect the sound a lot??

cutouts are quieter than open headers, most noticeably to the driver, because as stated, they are right uinder his feet. the sound will DEFINATLEY be more mellow, but a way to kind of meet in the middle is dual cutouts in the Y, less pipe for the sound ot travel through= louder. also get the benefit of not letting as much o2 creep back into your collecters as you would if you had open headers

I've never heard open headers in person. If they're louder than a cutout, then that'd be too loud for me. My cutout is right under the passenger front seat and it rattles everything in my car when it's open. It absolutely roars at WOT. I don't think I'd want anything louder. lol

if you've got the y don't worry about the cutout and rest of the exhaust if you can get away with it. I noticed considerably that when I finished my exhaust out after the y I lost power

I'm sure open headers are louder, here's my setup with a vid below.. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet as it's winter here, but sure sounds nice.. Can't wait to nail it with em open.. Vid below pic.

Sorry in the vid you only see one cutout.. Cold start so not any real high revs, but you get the picture of the sound..

Yes, it's the tunnel mount TA.. Bought it last year, want to say $380 or so with the driveshaft safety loop.. Maybe less, I really don't remember.. Love it though, works great..

Go for a cutout, its def. loud enough to get pulled over for, and if you get a ecutout you could close it up anytime you want if it gets to loud..but its just so beautiful..

I had open headers for like a week. Its hard on the o2s though with no pipe after the headers. It will burn them up. Anyways, I put my Y pipe on, and now its just open Y pipe. Here is a video. The ORY quieted it way down.

I currently have mine with a 3" off the Headers going into a 4" Y-pipe, then narrowing down gradually into a 3.5" with a 3.5" QTP Electric Cut Out about 16" from the Y-pipe Merge.
To be honest with you it actually sounds better like that and it a little louded IMO.. that little bit of back pressure helps out in my setup.

I'm running a 402ci LSX Stroker with a big Cam in it..pretty much can be heard for miles with the Cut Out open.

The car is pretty quiet at idle though with a cutout. I personally don't think my cutout is that loud, but when my friends follow me, they say it's pretty loud.

Keep in mind running open headers isn't too healthy because you're losing a shitton of backpressure.

I have cutouts on each header collector and with them open I drop 1 tenth and gain 1 mph vs. them being closed.

with a stock cam? probably so!

I can barely hear my cammed car with the cutout open when I am inside the car, and when I am driving I dont think its THAT loud, but everyone tells me its rediculous, so I let my dad drive, and follwed him around, and all I can say, is outside the car, its a whole diffrent world. Wayyyyy louder than I thought. Even at idle.
