there really is no best thing to do, it all depends on your budget and your goals for the car. if you want to save money i would do a heads&cam package, which should get you over 400 rwhp. if you got more cash to play with then you could choose a crate motor for either forced induction or staying NA. there are more choices but a high compression 427 would be great for staying NA and low compression iron 408 would be great for boost. there are plenty of sponsors on here that could get you what you want. good luck with your build.

start with full exhaust, intake, suspension, and some tires. dont worry about gears, if you race the car a few times with some mods and good tires on it, your rear end wont last long at all. that's the next big mod i'd look at for you. a 9" with some 3.90's.

if you want to do a motor swap just do the LQ9 swap take a 6.0 and bore it and stroke it and you will have a 408 or just get one and forge it and then its bullet proof caus eits iron but a ls1 can take alot to its all about how much you want to spend caus eth emore you put into a ls1 the more its goin to flex cause its aluminum
