Default WS6 > T/A HP Difference

What actually gives the WS6 cars the extra 15 or whatever HP rating over the standard T/A?? Is it internal engine, the PCM, or external parts?? Or just the Ram Air?
I apologize if this information is aready here, I just didn't see in my search.
Thanks.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say the ram air. that and suspension is really the only difference... and that they look killer.

WS6 has a raised air lid box and supposedly better flowing exhaust. Either way ALL LS1s are making the same 345hp, no matter how they are rated.

ye, befor LS1's are put in a car they make the same power. but things like better flowing exhaust and ram air will make a power difference, prbably not much but there will be somthing.

I was just curious as I have seen different publications mention that for '98, both the Camaro and Trans Am LS1s were rated at 305 hp @ 5200 and 335 ft-lb @ 400, while the SS and WS6 are rated at 320 hp @ 5200 and 345 ft lb @ 5400. LS1 Corvette for the same year was rated at 345 @ 5600/ 350 @ 4400, so I was wondering where they are getting the extra power and torque. Also wondering when a simple bolt-on mod is made to the Vette, SS, and WS6 is it going to make that much more than the standard Camaro/Firebird using the same mods??
Found this particular information in: How To Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s. It lists ratings for all LS based Gen III engines from '97 - '04.

Ignore all ratings. All LS1 cars make 340-360 hp and 290-310 rwhp. Give or take of course.

No. If it is the same year, it is the same exact engine. Earlier years had LS1 intakes and different heads than later years (not to mention a few other minor differences), but the WS6s and Z28s and Trans Ams and SSs of the same year all got the same engine pretty much. Even the C5 Vettes from those years had THE SAME ENGINE (minus the Z06s of later years which got the LS6).

GM just needed to advertise the Corvette as having more power than Fbodies so they would sell more of them, and for people to justify spending extra money on the WS6 or SS over the TA or Z28, they needed to rate them higher as well so people didn't feel like they were wasting their money, but they got the same thing engine-wise.

I apologize for being a newbie idiot. I tried the search earlier and didn't get anything as I must have been punching in the wrong words, because I just it again with a different combination and found a bunch of info on the subject.
Thanks.

i heard the reason a WS6 is a little quicker is it is lighter because of the suspension package.

WS6 has to be faster... my WS6 stomped my buddies TA. And i am positive the H/C had nothing to do with it.

i think but not sure that it is the ram air because if you look in to buying a ram air hood online some websites say that you will get an extra 10 to 15 hp
