Default which long tubes to buy???

i'm ready to order a set of LT headers for my 98Z28, i have the EGR stuff on my stock manifolds, do i need the headers with the EGR hookups or can i get the headers without the EGR hookups, would there be a power difference between the two? if i didn't use the EGR i would have to tune the computer right, basically what i need to know is which ones to buy... the ones with the EGR hookups or the ones without the EGR hookups, i was interested in the pacesetter with the y-pipe with no cats, anyone done a install of these?

It's going to come down to personal preference. When you get rid of the EGR you will not pass a visual smog. There is no power difference in keeping EGR and getting rid of it, differences lie mainly in appearance of your engine. A lot of guys get rid of the EGR to clean up their engine bays. If you get rid of the EGR, you will also need to get rid of AIR tubes and pump. To get rid of these you will need the "race style" headers. Also, unless you buy o2 sims, you will have to delete your rear o2 sensors with a tune.

If you are removing your cats you might be better off just taking off the EGR and AIR as well.

The install on headers is relatively easy for me, but I've done it a few times. There are a lot of write ups floating around.

so if i get the race style headers with no EGR hookup and completely remove the EGR and air pump i should have no problems besides the SES light coming on? and in order to get the SES light to go off i would need a tune or O2 sim?

Exactly. The only problem will be the SES light. Only way to get rid of it would be a tune.

An o2 sim is only to replace the rear o2 sensors.

Once you go headers and cat delete, the car needs to be tuned. I mean, your doing it for the power, right?

This is correct and for this reason I would buy all the mods you could and install them before the tune so its worth it. Most places have a fairly cheap price for this type of tune anyway. Here it can be done for 200.00 I would make a list of all the stuff you want changed or deleted, and go through it before he finishes to make sure he did not forget to do any of it. They commonly forget to do some of it..

PACESETTERS!! Good quality, good price Get them coated though...they look so much better under the hood IMO...and they won't rust.

Coated pacesetters most definately rust. They just don't rust as fast as uncoated ones do. And they look nicer then uncoated. My coated Pacesetters have been on for two years and have seen some rain here and there. I noticed about six months ago that they are starting to rust a little. But for the price they are still the best bang for the buck out there.

If you want the best then Kooks gets my vote. Good fit and reputation for quality. Plus they are stainless steel which is very nice to prevent the rust and keeping them looking good for years to come. But they are pricey. If cost is a concern then coated pacesetters are a great bang for the buck. I'm very pleased with mine.

I agree with this as I had a horrible experience with my QTPs. Once they were extensively worked on and fitted to the car, they did net some serious gains though. Both QTP and Kooks are the Grott design, but Kooks have way better quality control. This is what I have seen anyway.

Hooker here.
The high-performance shop I paid to put 'em on said it was easy for him to install them. lol
They do look pretty good on there, not touching anything, for whatever that is worth.
