04 GTO cam in a trans am/camaro?
Looking to buy a 2000 Trans Am in a couple of months and noticed that the 04 GTO with the same ls1 engine makes 25 more hp and 15 torque more than the camaro and trans am ls1's.
Has anyone ever put the GTO ls1 cam into their trans am or camaro ls1, if so what much better is it over the trans am or camaro cam?

i thought the GTO got the ls6 engine....which is different cam and heads...hence the change in power.
could also be things like different air intake, and exhaust setup...i think the GTO has TDs factory.

I think the '04 GTO has the same engine including the cam and heads. The F-Body LS1s were way underated. They all made around 350fwhp whether in an F-Body, Vette, or GTO.

An LS1 is an LS1. The 04 GTO LS1 is the same as the 01-02 f-body LS1. The were rated differently but all make the same amount of power. It is the same as the LS1 in a corvette which was "rated" at 350 hp. All the same. In 2005, the GTO got the 6.0 liter LS2 which was rated at 400hp. Read some of the stickies about f-bodies and the LS1 motor and its variants and that should help you out.

Too much trouble to swap cams for one that small. Before you do anything internally, decide what you want to do LONG-TERM with the car. Do you want a street car? A track car? Blower/Turbo/Nitrous? Things like that. Once you have you a plan for your car, it's easy for people to give you advice on how to get your car there. Hope this helps! It's better to do things once and do it right!

From what I've seen the 04 ls1 cam has less than .01" lift more than an 00 LS1 cam and less exhaust duration. Might as well pull yours out and put it back in. Or it could be the 01-02 fbody cam which was like .030" less lift than the 00 cam.

All `01-04 LS1's are the same it doesn't matter what car they where installed in, they all make approx 350 FWHP The `97-00 Engines have a slightly more aggressive cam, don't have the LS6 Intake but still make similar Power.
