Default Rev limiter on 07 C6 Vette

Hi, call me an idiot but I accidently downshifted into second gear on the freeway going about 75mph. It wasn't for very long but it revved to about 7300rpm. Whats the rev limiter suppose to be at? It's not suppose to rev that high right? Hope I didn't mess anything up!!! It's brand new with only 900 miles on it!!! STUPID ME!!!

Far as I know the rev limiter only protects shifting up, not shifting down.

ouch, 6500 redline....I think it is factory standard at 6700rpm. At least thats what mine is at. how did you see it go to 7300? Thats not good if it did. Your limiter didnt kick in then. Just take it easy on the car for a few days and see how it feels. You might have gotten luckey. LS2 is built pretty strong thank god.

u downshift form 6th the 2nd? If u didnt blow it (which u would obviously know) and nothing else sounds/feels bad, u should be fine. U got a warranty right haha

Yeah, lucky I still have warranty!!! Right when it revved up, I looked down and I saw the rpm reach like 7300!!! It still sounds the same, no new ones. Hope I got lucky! Why didn't the limiter kick in though?

Like I said, I don't think the engine can be protected from shifting down. Rev limiter protects upshifting only.

because you mechanically over-rev'ed it. limiter only stops it from over-reving when you dont "screw up" (for lack of a better word).

That makes sense. The limiter will kick in when you're pulling in a gear and not upshifting when you hit redline. Nothing can stop mechanical over-rev...except bent pushrods. LOL.

Exactly. The engine only does what the tranny lets it do. accelerating the computer knows where the rpms are going. Shocking the engine with instant downshift rpms, the computer didnt know you were going to go to that extreem rpm. Just keep your ears open, and the car might seem slower, that might be in your head because of the screw up.

You have to listen to the car. You may have gotten lucky. I think the internals are stronger on the 07's. <----just a thought. LS2's are stronger, and I thought I read that the 07s had a few stronger internal parts. (might be wrong). Maybe nothing is wrong at all

Did you just buy it. I guess you got a good deal on it being an 07. Spend the money you saved on fixing the engine jk jk. I'd change the oil around 1500 miles.

It sucks. I dont know what other advice to give you. Maybe in a year, start bitching about horrible ticking and blame it on how the vette sat too long and maybe gm will throw in a new LS2 or maybe...duh duh duh, and LS3.

I think the only cars with downshifting protection our the slap stick manuals or paddle shifting.
side note...

Thanks guys, drove the car this morning and haven't noticed any unusual ticking from the engine. Only the norm.

LUCKY BASTARD. Now sit in the driveway tonight with the clutch in and car off and learn how to shift.
