Default Took Car to Get Code ran!

I just took my car to Auto Zone and had the engine code ran.

It gave me the code P0420

Saying the catalyst system efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operating conditions. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank 2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank)

Is this the O2 sensor that it bad?

Any ideas?

Thanks

check vacuum lines as well. I had a leak and it sprung the same code. It was the pcv valve line that goes into the front of the intake under the tb. but who knows...

I'd swap the rear O2's left to right then reset the PCM. if the code comes up on the other bank its the O2 that is bad. If you get the same code again its the Cat thats bad.

Hmm.... tomorrow I will try and clean up the engine bay and check for any vacuum leaks.... and then try that O2 swap thing But could it be the front O2 censor that is bad? I noticed they were like $80 for 1 at AutoZone!!!

They erased the code or w/e and the light hasn't come back on yet.

More than likely it's your cat........time for an ORY! That code just monitors if the cats are doing their job or not and 98-99% of the time, it's the cat/cats. Slap an ory in there and get someone to tune out your rear o2's or put sims on.

I'm not that technologically advanced... What is an ORY? How would I go about tuning out the O2's and whats a Sim? lmao!

I do kinda wanna get some new exhaust.... I'd hope to get it minus Cats and Emissions garbage seeing as I live in MI and there is no testing.

I was thinking some longtube pacesetters or something? and maybe Magnaflow or something?

I'm new to this whole computerized car world...

If you don't tune the 02s out, an 02 simulator is used to trick the computer into thinking the cats are good.
