Default problems with c5 Z06's

What are some major weak points on the c5 z06's because im trying to decide between a z06 and a cobra. For example I have a 02 ss automatic and know that they have a weak 10 bolt and tranny after so much horsepower like a cam and full bolt ons with dr's. Z06 have the independent rear and I know they dont wheel hop like cobras which is an advantage but what are the weak points that need upgrading before I want to put over 400rwhp.

expensive parts.
mainly just output shafts to my knowledge. but i think your pretty safe >500hp or slicks on the track.
built rear differential's are very expensive.

x2.

It's called Corvette Tax. Just about anything you can think of is a hell of a lot more expensive for a Vette. Other than that, I would still go with the Vette over the Cobra anyday, but I'm biased against Ford.

Weak points at 400 rwhp? None that i can think of you will be fine a Z06 will take that and a lot more like a champ before you go breaking things. All my buddies have cobras and i just bought my z a while back and took them for rides and now every single one wants a vette.... Mind you i do have a forged motor with 500+rwhp on motor and then nitrous on top but i havent even sprayed it yet and its rediculous you cant beat the light weight and power of the vette. With no nitrous just playing around on a bad tune I am side by side with there kb cobras, with a tune and some more seat time i will be pulling away all motor and with a 150+shot it will be very very ugly. I dont think you can go wrong with either but imo if you have a choice between a vette and the cobra its a very simple choice.

Not to mention the diffrence in Gas Mileage between the two....

Yea thats one thing that is expensive on a vette but should not be needed in this case.

Not true at all there are ways around every single item that you are thinking have "corvette tax". Do your research and you can find things at the same price if not less than an fbody and better quality.

01's and early 02's had oil consumption problems. I'm pretty sure GM will fix it though (piston rings?), but just something to watch out for.

Other than that, I would choose a Z06 over a Cobra any day of the week. So much more potential, IMO.

Well put my dad has an 03 z06 and thats the reason why i got my T/A the Awesome power and great corners On the other hand of the Book Cobras are nice with full bolt ons keeps the zo6 still ahead by a headlight but on a roll its the driver ( full boltons terminator cobra vs stock z06 )but Ford just dont have that reliability of the ls series engines with going through 4 fox bodys and haveing many friends in the Svt Club in vegas

1. i know insurance is cheaper on a vette than an fbody for some stupid reason even might be cheaper than cobra insurance might look into that
2. vette will get a lot more attention
3. you will go through 5 cobra tranny's before one z06 rearend
4. can find some really good deals on the older z's the cobra is still way over priced

which insurance company does this??? im pretty sure thats wrong, i only pay $80 more per year going from an auto 3800 camaro to a 2000 M6 Z/28 I cant imagine a Vette being less than an $80 increase from a 6 cylinder camaro unless your talking about an early-mid 90's vette

Its true. Cars that are costly to insure are EVO's, Impreza's(WRX/STi), F-body's(in most areas), some 4-wheel drive trucks, SUVs.

Just think how many younger adolescents drive those kind of vehicles....and wreck the **** out of them. lol. Theres a kid in town that has damn near totalled his EVO 4 times...I think the 5th time will be the charm, and the finale to his spree of raising insurance rates.

I quoted a '99 Torch Red, 6spd, FRC. It was almost 280 dollars less a year to insure vs. my '00 Trans Am.

I also had quotes for STi's and WRX's....absolutely REDICULOUS. I didn't even look at EVO's becuase of that reason.

wow... guess ya learn something new every day... should have gone with a vette lol too bad i couldnt have afforded the initial cost guess its cheaper cause there's fewer claims on them cause mostly older men drive them

Yes thats exactly why. Few kids have vettes compared to the other cars listed, (neons, wrxs, fbodys) so less accidents/tickets and in turn, cheaper insurance.

100% correct. Most Corvette owners are old guys on Viagra that don't want to touch a thing on it. they need to be introduced to LS1TECH.

LOL seriously, whats the point of having a sports car if you dont use it as such??? (and no need keeping it stock either )

All good points.

And yes it is cheaper as well on the vette than the cobra.

The other thing a lot of people dont think about is that even a cobra with low miles is usually beat up. Even at 30,000 miles thats 30,000 mile that the engine has had boost thrown at it. Thats most likely just as much if not more wear and tear on the motor than a z06 with 50,000+ miles. Im not sure if my friends have bad luck or what but they have all been through numerous motors and are all under 40k in there cobras. 4 out of 6 of them have blown there motor at least once so far. One of them is on motor number 3. (3 out of the 4 that have blown had kb's on them) There "forged" motors are not as reliable as people make them out to be.
